The amount of goals he scored against Newcastle, I'd have thought he'd have been a hero with you guys!

as a player for you he was nothing short of exceptional, you probably wont like my next comment. but imho he was a coward who didnt dare test himself at a higher level, was happy to be worshipped at the dell instead of proving himself, but happy to be the best amongst lets face it mediocre players all or at least most of his career.

i said you wouldnt like it.

anyway bar that and some great goals to treasure, i have never heard him say a good word about sunderland in my 38 years

I don't have anything against Southampton fans, I like the way they are combining good signings whilst still bringing through talent from their academy. I think Shaw is a superb player and what I would give for us to produce a left back of his talent from our own setup.

However we are only one game into the season and some of their fans are coming across rather arrogant to say they've achieved **** all yet, bit like us.

It may surprise you if you were to judge Saints fans by some of the comments on this thread, but I actually can look objectively at my club and would tend to agree. I think coward is a little strong - lacking real ambition, yes. There were a lot of under the radar reasons why he stayed - his missus at the time blocked him moving to Spurs as the hop across to Southampton to/from Guernsey was easy. Looking at his undoubted talent and his career, of course he should have gone elsewhere (Fergie wanted him prior to getting Cantona but was priced out).

One entertaining story is that Ian Branfoot tried to sell him to Norwich in a swap deal plus cash for Mark Robins. Thank **** that didn't go through.

Another point worth noting, in the eyes of most right-thinking Southampton fans, he's lost an awful lot of respect as a person since leaving the club - his unseemly sniping at our chairman (which thankfully now seems to have abated) and his foolish attempts to take over the club with a joke of a consortium has left a bit of a bad taste. A shame.

Either way, one hell of a footballer though.

Good luck for the season to your gang - think it will be one hell of a roller coaster for you - Giaccherini is a great signing and as long as PDC can get it to gel without personally imploding, I think you'll do well.

bring on Saturday. That's the only way to conclude this laughable thread. lol

No-one from Saints is bragging about what we 'have achieved' or are 'going to achieve'. We haven't achieved anything yet in terms of top flight. We are just excited and optimistic about the direction our club is moving in. Let us smile. Let us hope and dream. I'm sure you will in a year or 2 if PDC's revolution works.

Chill out and be excited for Saturday.

To what your daddy's company makes.

I'm sure you know that there's a difference between your daddy's company's net earnings and your salary.

well said. a few too many handbags have been swung about on this thread..

It will be interesting to see how the two teams line up on saturday, hoping for a couple more additions our end. should be a tight match and good football to boot. i would say good luck to the saints, but that would be somewhat disingenuous as luck can change a game! <cheers><cheers>
