Considering how much effect "supportive" fans can have on actual game play and given that our supporters are evidently lacking in this respect, maybe we shouldn't be looking for new players in January after all. We should sign some "supportive" fans as this is the missing ingredient we lack to make us into a winning team.

And there was me thinking you were never going to get it :emoticon-0148-yes:

I do think we should also sign players in January however.

A message to the happy clappers if the players came out no matter how s hit they are and played to the best of ability from the first minute the crowd would be 100% behind them when you have players who couldn’t give a f uck it wouldn’t bother me if the fans booed them from the first minute to the last is that sinking in or can you not understand that.

If Happy Clapper i s a term for supporting the team when they need it most then I will wear it as a badge of honour.. From the first minute to the last we were outshouted by about 1500 Coventry fans.. All you heard from our fans was moans and boos.. If people think this is going to give our players confidence then they are not on my wavelength at all.. And it is confidence that is the problem..

Negative fan base. Well I’ve only been to two home games this season so I am not sure if I am allowed to comment or if my opinion counts to some so called Uber fans.
FWIW I’ll give it anyway.
We are in the **** and need improvement immediately. Never mind waiting till January. We need wins right now. History has shown that big clubs in this league quite often go down a league as often as they go up.
That is a possibility right now. It’s not staring us in the face but will be if we don’t improve our performances on the pitch. It’s got to the point where I am not confident of us beating anybody home or away.
Call me a Moaning Minnie, Bed wetter , whatever you like.
Last night I was out for a meal and met a group of Hartlepool fans. They took the Piss. I had to sit and take it.
It’s feckin shocking.

I half agree.... but it is a two way action

09 often gives us something to cheer about if others did the same, it would be different.

It's a whole combination of things with a bit of truth in all of the arguments. Everyone pulling together at the moment will help, and see where we get to.

The negativity flying around our club at the moment could be totally destructive to our season going forward, and the vast majority is coming from one particular section of our club.... the fanbase.
People are constantly abusing the owners, and now the players are getting turned on.
Our fans need to get back on side, and start actually supporting this club rather than abusing it.
Understand that it's a journey and be prepared to go with it.

Because if our fans are on side, the journey will be quicker and the club will flourish.

Our key advantage at Sunderland is our support, so let's use it rather than it being our disadvantage, because that's where it's heading.

"But getting on the owners/players backs half way through a really important season, with promotion still achievable, is just stupidity."

Exactly a fortnight later,

"Does he stick with the manager?

For me, I'd change him, it's toxic, the football is poor and it looks like we might lose touch by the time January comes."

Your first two threads on the forum, one criticising the supporters and the other criticising the club <doh>

When the new owners came in, a new sense of optimism seemed to come with it. Well, it hasn't taken long for it to disappear.

People are constantly abusing the owners, and now the players are getting turned on.

Before Stewart Donald came in, the club was in decline for many years before, and you'd have to go back many years before that to find our last period of major success.

What do people expect, Donald to wave a magic wand, and the poison is immediately wiped out, and we are back in the premier league and going on to fight for trophies?

Pompey were in the premier league, Europe and fa cup winners not too long ago, now they are in the same position as us. Why? Because they weren't run properly, like us... and just like us they are rebuilding, and has it taken time? Yes!

I'm hoping it's an online thing. Most fans I actually speak to are pretty reasonable. General consensus is Donald had right idea but club too much for him. I have heard one guy having a rant about him being a con man etc., but same guy has a lot of extreme views.

Depending at what way you look at it.

I was trying to encourage the support to get behind the club.

Then asked peoples views on the current manager.

Just hold your hands up man, you totally contradicted yersel in the space of 14 days.

You were calling out Sunderland supporters for their 'stupidity' then did exactly the same a fortnight later.

There is no other way to look at it.

This isn't asking for an opinion on the manager, it's giving yours.

Where have I called the Sunderland fans stupid?

And I'm allowed to give my thoughts on a manager, it's the point of a forum.

Ok fair enough.

And I stand by that qoute. We can either be the best fans on the land, but if we turn against a manager or board, it can turn toxic.

I don't think many will disagree with that.

If we would have lost v Bristol rovers in front our home crowd, it would have been toxic at full time.

We will never progress whilst the fans are against the manager and players. Why does there always have to be a scapegoat? Unity is strength, and once things get back to normal we need to get back to making the away teams fear our support rather than our own players.

There's a difference.

For example, at the time I posted that we looked in trouble, and didn't look like we could achieve promotion, which we didn't. I also gave a constructive assessment as to why I felt we needed change.

But this season, we are unbeaten and we have supporters still complaining, it's unjustified. IMO it has to be constructive to be fair.

But whatever my opinion. Would I turn up at the ground to boo PP of the players? No.

We're in League 1 because we're ****e. I don't see how pointing that out can be "negativity". What can be, though, is not supporting the team and manager in their attempts to be good by League 1 standards. If we were playing good football, winning games and pushing for promotion there would be no need to be negative. At the moment, we're ticking 2 out of those 3 boxes, so there's reasonable grounds for optimism. Nothing more; nothing less.
