To some extent I feel a little sorry for Local Councillors of whatever party at times. Not only do they have to run the wrath of local people for local things not happening when the money to do said work is cut viciously from budgets but then have also to take a kicking for what the MPs do when they have little or no control over that either. It's a thankless task often and it makes you wonder why anyone would even want to stand. I have never voted locally on an always voted for basis. Having worked on the inside of local government I know a bit about how the finances work and what you can blame the Rulers for and what you can't. I have always based my vote on a policy basis at the time of an election. I have voted for all 3 main parties in my time. I try to do the same in national elections and not affiliate myself to one party or another. I have voted one way locally and another nationally in the same year and even at the same time. However, most people seem not to look at what an individual stands for and can only see red or blue or green or yellow every time they vote. An example of this is a friend of my wife who once told me she only votes Tory and anyway that Boris makes her laugh. It kind of begs the question why some people are even allowed to vote at all.
I’m very disappointed this hasn’t provoked a response so I feel I should provide examples of Philomena Cunk’s forensic analysis of historical issues.
I was browsing through the Coronation pictures in todays paper.....( Okay I'm a Royalist ).....and there was one of the family (those not disgraced of course) and down one end stood Princess Alexandria who stood between the new Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh and they seemed to be holding her up. I had forgotten that she was still with us....I checked out her age and was surprised to find that she was only two years older than me at 86.......I also checked that it was her that came to Aden in 1961 and who I was part of a guard of honour for as she got off the plane at RAF Khormasker. Brought back memories of being selected for the guard of honour because of my height....we where all between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10 inches tall.......instead of our normal khaki uniforms we had to be measured for a ceremonial uniform....made of a satin type material. We all looked smart standing on the runway at Khormasker waiting for her aircraft to land.....but there was a problem....her aircraft was 30 minutes late....because of prevailing winds we were told......although it was December standing on a huge tarmac area in the mid-day sun in Aden was quite a task....and eventually our lovely crisp uniforms became limp with our sweat....I think our normal khaki uniforms would have withstood the heat better....these ceremonial uniforms didn't survive the heat as well....and we all looked like drowned rats as she walked past us all serene and cool looking.
I’m a Royalist too. I believe someone who sees their role as service to the country and the people, as Charles swore to in the Coronation, is a better bet than a washed up politician intent on meddling in politics behind the scenes. That’s what we’d up with as a president. Gordon Brown or Tony Blair anyone? Or, God forbid, Boris Johnson?
I blame PUTIN for this.....Not only the European Song Contest on Saturday. BUT....TWO semi finals on Tuesday and Thursday to be subjected too as well.
I am not adverse to Royalty just adverse to Charlie and there is no way ever I would consider the horse to be queen. This bloke who swore an oath on Saturday also swore one when he got married. "Only unto thee as long as we both shall live" or words to that effect. A couple of hours later he was bonking Camilla. This is the defender of your faith with a couple of rules like "must not covet another man's wife". I actually never saw any of the Coronation and have no intention of watching any of it on play back either. Around £250m for a bit of a do when people are struggling. 30,000 Police on duty when you can't get one for love nor money if your house gets burgled. Arrest a protester who hasn't actually done anything. Rush a law through just to make sure you can. Sorry but not for me. I do however take the President argument.
Fare enough Mr S. My views are different, each to their own i guess. I did retire my Argyle shirt for the off season. At least we agree on Argyle. COYG..
It's ok for you BC you didn't have your taxes contributing to the £250m. If he was King of Canada I wouldn't give a stuff either. You cannot retire your Argyle shirt ever. It's simply not allowed.
As far as the marriage oaths are concerned, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones so I’m in no position to criticise for that. But there are millions of others who should refrain too. The pair of them were the last royal pair to be subjected to what amounted to an arranged marriage. It took the results of it to prove it can’t be done in the modern age. A tragedy for both of them.
I'm not saying that divorce is wrong notdistant. If a couple can't get on and stay together then to make them is not the way. However, before you start another relationship you should at least have the decency to finish the first one. In his case he didn't even wait until the lights were out and simply continued his liaisons with another woman who he knew to be married. Therefore he plainly lied in Church when he spoke his original oath as he had no intentions of honouring it. Given that how seriously do you take this latest oath?
That isn't the point. We all know the history of the thing. You do not swear an oath and then not either mean it or intend to honour it . That's the crux of the matter not what the history of it was before he swore. We all had history before marriage but that did not mean we ignored a vow after we had made it. The man has no moral fibre whatsoever and clearly neither has she.
but if he was divorced and she was divorced that would make it ok, as they were both single in terms .. but they did it knowing each was still married of sort.. naughty
If they got together after ending the previous relationships then I would have no problem with it all. However, they were like a pair of randy teenagers before the honeymoon had ended and pretty much all the way through the marriage. If he didn't want to marry Diane then he should have had the balls to have said so. Reason he didn't is...........because under any circumstances he wanted his birthright and he would have probably had to stand down as the heir apparent.
Three stories have come into conjunction this week. Firstly, our Home Secretary thinks UK citizens need to be trained to pick fruit & veg so she can pretend we don’t need migrant labour. Now I’m not sure what training is needed but more to the point. I have no idea where she thinks the thousands of UK citizens are who want this work. We’ve seen no sign of them since Brexit have we? Secondly, despite the £350m a week we’re saving by not being in the EU, work has started on only 7 of the 40 new hospitals we were told it would pay for. Thirdly, the company that makes Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat has warned that unless the rules on sourcing parts that were included in the Brexit deal are changed, 10% tariffs will kick in to put thousands of well paid industrial jobs at risk. Meanwhile, it’s said that most British of brands, Jaguar, is considering moving production to Spain. These are of course exactly the type of jobs UK citizens do want rather than fruit picking and their loss would be particularly galling as other industries like fishing were thrown under the Brexit bus in an attempt to protect the car industry. Where automotive goes today, aerospace goes tomorrow. Still, Boris got Brexit done and we must now put it behind us and certainty never mention that all these things were warned of prior to the referendum. They were of course just unfounded lies put about to frighten the electorate.
Funnily enough you have just about copied word for word the conversations that have happened in my household this week. Are you Chinese and have access to their technology? You are kind of wasting your time notdistant because no matter what happens now the Leave people will never accept it has anything to do with their vote and will definately not acknowledge that any of it was warned about before the vote took place. The £350m was never there and just a joke told by that jack the lad who led the campaign. He's such a card that man. I have to mention a conversation I overheard earlier this week. This was talking about a possible comeback by that man either before the next election or soon after it if the Tories get hammered. Woman to another woman.........Well I like Boris and think he's really funny. He at least has a personality so I'd vote for him if he does come back as their leader. Not one mention of a policy anywhere not one mention of the lies and deceipt not one mention of the corruption he always seems on the edge of let alone in the middle of.. Simply he's funny. Doesn't it make you proud that everyone is given a vote. I should add I didn't join in albeit I was so so tempted and definately didn't punch her.
Well it’s certainly the case that if another referendum was held today, the result would not be to Leave. All the polls say so, decisively The electorate is one thing but the cabal of lunatic Tories and right wing extremists further still out into La-La Land who got us into this mustn’t be let off the hook. Brexit isn’t a taboo subject that can be banned to hide their sins. The sad thing is that there is no way back and God knows where that’ll leave us in 10 or 20 years.
Well at last there's a plan.... but then, there was a plan for 40 new hospitals too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65698529 Let's not forget two things: If it wasn't for Brexit, this wouldn't be so critical because we wouldn't face tariffs if product sourcing was wrong. If it wasn't for Brexit, we'd be able to share in EU subsidies for these kinds of projects.
