How does that compare with similar offences? Worst thing to me is that he picked on a young rookie and not some grizzled old pro. from the opposition; bully?
8 weeks is a really heavy hit Kenny, it finishes his season. The hard nuts were predicting 5-6 weeks, so Gaff got hammered by the judiciary. The debate here centres not just on the punch, but in not having a send off penalty. The game might not have descended into the farce it did if Gaff had been giving his marching orders. And the reaction of Eagles' supporters in cheering and applauding anything and everything Gaff did after the incident, has called into question the attitude of fans. When Gaff left the field, he received a huge round of applause. It was as though team support stood above justice and empathy.
Am I correct in recalling that there was one of these 'bastardised' matches between an Australian Rules Football team and an Irish Hurling team a few years ago in which the 'Aussie Rules' team won convincingly? There was also a match in the UK between a RL club and a RU club. I think the RL club won but this was many years ago when professional RU was in it's infancy and the second half was played under RL rules.
I'm a league and rugby fan Kenny, so I know little about the AFL. I could be wrong, but I sort of though the Irish won most of those bastardised games. Not that I watched them.
Wow. The men's 1500m European defending champion Filip Ingebrigtsen falls in the first round in Berlin, then finishes third to qualify for the next round. Amazing.
BK, the match up was between Wigan RFL & Bath RU, where from memory the union game was close-ish but the league game was one-sided. I used to go and watch Wigan back in those days and there were some side, very strong all over the park and quick. I bet Cyc can remember when they played Manly in the first un-official World Club match at Central Park where Wigan came out on top of a pulsating match 8-0 I think... The union guys just couldn't keep up the pace in the league match but the union rules dictate that you can keep the game close and make it more of a battle. To be fair to the fans and pundits who quoted and criticised it at the time, both codes learned a lot off each other to which they both have very similar tactics, players & coaches...
That was one hell of a Wigan team Red. Every run on player was either an England, Great Britain or New Zealand International.
Very sad news to hear of the death of Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle at the early age of 36. He was a fighter to the end. Tributes from family and friends are very moving. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-45123919 R.I.P. Jarrod
A smashing run by Dina Asher-Smith in the European Women's 100m Final in Berlin. A nice slick time too.
