BK, the match up was between Wigan RFL & Bath RU, where from memory the union game was close-ish but the league game was one-sided. I used to go and watch Wigan back in those days and there were some side, very strong all over the park and quick. I bet Cyc can remember when they played Manly in the first un-official World Club match at Central Park where Wigan came out on top of a pulsating match 8-0 I think...
The union guys just couldn't keep up the pace in the league match but the union rules dictate that you can keep the game close and make it more of a battle. To be fair to the fans and pundits who quoted and criticised it at the time, both codes learned a lot off each other to which they both have very similar tactics, players & coaches...
