None of those. When I first heard this question my initial guesses were Peru and Chile, which are both incorrect of course.
 
Hold on, the Chinese only have one time zone, just to remind people who live thousands of miles west of Beijing that they are not important.

Correct. Despite having five geographic time zones the only time they use is Beijing time.

Just looked it up. If you walk over the Chinese border to Nepal, India or Pakistan you have to put your watch back by 3 hours.

This morning, and most days, I ate a clone. What was it?

The banana is the correct answer. Most bananas grown in the world are the Cavendish variety, developed to get rid of the seeds which aren’t tasty, and grown through vegetative rather than sexual reproduction. They replaced the Gros Michel variety which was wiped out by a disease in the fifties, and are now suffering from the same disease, being eradicated in Asia, only a matter of time until it reaches South America and the Caribbean. The race is on to develop a new strain of banana, probably from the five original wild banana trees surviving in Madagascar.

I like bananas.
