he wont stand trial... he will be off to his house in italy or have they taken his passport?

Not surprising, I think it's the wrong decision but with his profile he's not going to do anything. The police won't even have to keep an eye on him, the media will do that for them.

I can't believe the police have ballsed up this case so badly.

Also it's a joke that the prosecution relied on that Botha, who was also up for several counts of murder.

Doesn't make South Africa as a country look very good.

Does he have a leg to stand on for a start ?

2nd He wont be able to move outside his home for reporters. So in effect he is in jail.

3rd, my thoughts are with Reevas family and friends. People have forgotten the true victim of all this.

Apparently it's common-place for investigating officers to be accused of crimes...

"...it is not an unusual situation for the police.

"While exercising their duties, police are often accused of committing crimes. If they are not suspended, they continue working."

Leading South African crime expert Antony Altbeker says it may seem like a "PR disaster", but the charges against Det Botha are unlikely to influence the outcome of any murder trial.

"A judge won't be terribly swayed by that. It is whether he produces the evidence, not that he is under investigation," he said."

Was watching it on BBC News, that magistrate didn't half go on. This case seems very similar to the O.J one back in the 90's, some rich sportsman getting away with it. After what the magistrate said about what happened it seems incredible to me that he has bail but I guess if he's earning 5.6 million p.a. that greases the wheels for his legal defence.

Did the reporter have to boost his word count for the report?
