that jock hasnt won a set against federer.

Erm what???? Head to head record reads Murray 8-7 Federer!!

Murray may seem a moody bastard 99.9% of the time in interviews, but heck i'd be exactly the same, some people dont like to be centre of attention and i'm he doesn't like a camera thrust in his face every 5 minutes. Let him do his talking on the court where he has plenty of personality but knows how to control it!

Also many of you calling the Scottish biggots, i'd re read your posts!

unless my maths is wrong, its 76 years since a British man won the singles (Fred Perry, 1936). Not that it makes any difference. By coinidence the last British singles winner was Virginia Wade in 1977, the Silver Jubilee year.

I hate Tennis but hope Murray loses after hearing some pompous prick on the news saying the whole nation will be behind Murray ..

The only good thing linked to Tennis is the famous Fred Perry T-Shirts

:-)

Murray?......pompous prick?

Get your priorities right.

I don't follow tennis, either, but why should Andy M lose/suffer because of some 'pompous prick'?

Oregon, they will never let the English have a vote on that.

On the subject of tennis, Jonathan Marray is playing in the men's doubles, but he is English, so no fuss will be made if he wins.

The comment was tongue in cheek. I don't think for one minute we would get to vote. It is unfair that the ~5,000,000 people that happen to live north of an arbitrary line get to have a say in The Union and the ~50,000,000 (10X as many) people wh live south of it, don't get the same. But since when has politics and goverment had anything to do with fairness? Its all about maintaining power for those who already have it and keeping the rest of us happy enough that we don't do anything to change the status quo.

I say, sir, steady on!

Well here's to Andy Murray...

let's hope that he can win!
But MY feeling is, that he will start the game as a Brit and end it as a Scot.

i just read a comment from Frankie Boyle about Andy Murray. Apparently his facial expression is normal for any Scotsman who doesn't eat chips!

I could care less really, but credit it too him its some achievement. He gets loads of **** for not winning but he's up against 3 of the greatest players of all time.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/te...-Martin-Samuel--Give-respect-Andy-Murray.html

See him in a new light after reading this.

Thanks for posting this. Excellent article - ( and at least we've been spared all those 'England expects' headlines that the press here, especially the Daily Mail, like to roll out!) I really hope he wins, but my head says Federer will do it.

What really surprises me is that this is from the Daily Mail!!!

IMO Martin Samuel is the best writer out there. Read his back catalogue of articles, has a West Ham bias which is his only flaw really. I know BCC disagrees with me on this but i like him. He has highlighted some of the obscene shenanigans of our Olympic selection panel brilliantly.

Come on Roger !!

As a kid I'd supprt all UK teams, but when I realised how churlish and miserable the Scots are...

Unfortunately this reduces me to their level, but christ they are a dour people.

On the subject of Scots independence, the English should get a vote as well... I'd like to vote for it.

StanIsTheMan.....

I consider all media people who come out with the classic " the whole nation" line as being pricks.

just a couple of weeks ago some one came out with " the whole nation" will be celebrating the queens jubilee...

wrong again because i sure wasnt as i couldnt give a toss about the royals neither could thousands of others..

im sure the whole nation wont be supporting Andy Murray which is what was claimed on the bbc.

also iv a bet on murray to lose by 3 sets to nil.

:-)

the pompous prick remark was not aimed at Andy Murray as someone else pointed out.
