Surely the "number of members" quoted is the number eligible to vote, and does not include the under 16s? I assumed the 1400ish member thing mentioned was the number of letters sent out asking for a vote. Polls eh? More trouble than they're worth.
The name change doesn't bother me right or wrong it's just how it is. I don't want Assem Allam out I think he's ok. BUT A KC Stadium void of the Bunkers / Kempton / e2e2e3 supporters would be ****e. I might be an old git but there my type of fans ..If they left to support a new Hull City then I would have to do the same without a doubt. Might sound crazy but that's just what I would have to do... Iv been in the west stand once....and the south stand....NOT having a go at anyone but my loyalty to the so called Hooligans ( lol ) out trumps everything ...Kempton / Bunkers / e1 / e2 / e3 my type of fans..
I assumed that this poll would be very much against the name change and not 60:40. However, what is far more alarming is the mere 63% of turnout, and with an issue as important as this, you can definitely make the argument that the other 37% aren't that bothered about the name change. There's absolutely no reason why people would not enter their vote if they felt so strongly about the name change. The OSC is supposed to represent the 'die hards' so if they're not completely against the name change, what hope does any opposition have?
That seems to point to their results being misleading, either by accident or design as it could give the impression some are apathetic rather than just ineligible.
So people who don't vote in any forthcoming elections, local or general, should be deemed as being happy with the current party in power and therefore despite getting less votes they should remain in power? The thought that the people in the OSC represent the die-hards is so laughable it really isn't worthy of discussion.
Trouble with these polls is there all from minority groups. OSC under 1500 fans CTWD under 2,000 fans. With over 20,000 home fans at home games. So both polls added together still = a minority. Maybe the FA should say poll ALL season ticket holders and go with what the majority say.. If it's a No result then Assem Allam can sod off if he wants. Could the FA not tell Mr Allam to poll ALL season pass holders ?
Maybe if they could organise a poll of season pass holders when we were in League 2? Or 2007/2008 before we got into the PL? A lot of the present season pass holders are more fans of the PL than they are City fans. Just look at the nauseating scenes of them flocking around the Man Utd coach, applauding Stevie G at corners, getting in early to take photos of the opposition warming up (but no doubt be amongst those leaving early no matter the state of the game) and sitting there spectating rather than supporting. In any case Allam wouldn't do a poll with a simple yes/no alternative as he knows that only giving those two options without adding caveats about him walking away if he loses etc would mean an overwhelming no vote.
I don't think AA would agree to a poll even if he thought he would win, he sees the very idea of it as a question to his authority.
You can definitely make the argument that the other 37% are against the name change but succumbed to the threat by Allam to "walk away within 24hrs". Maybe they just bottled it, and abstained...
A poll of 5 family members and friends who attend matches on a regular basis. Are you against any name change? 1 Yes 4 No Are you for or against Hull Tigers? 2 Against Hull Tigers 1 For Hull Hull Tigers 2 Are not bothered either way Will you still watch Hull Tigers? 1 No 4 Yes I consider this as fair a poll as any conducted. I also asked if they would join CTWD? 5 No OSC? 1 Yes (me) 4 No HSCC? 3 Are members 2 would not get any benefit A Supporters Trust? 1 Yes 3 No 1 Not sure
Completely accept that I was wrong about it bieng full of die hards Happy isn't the right word, I think people just abstain because they don't know what to do. For example in the last general election turnout was 65%, very similar to the OSC poll and quite frankly that is more important than a football club as for most it's just a hobby. However, I asked a question in another thread which got overlooked; would you have accepted Allam saving us if you found out that once he got us into the PL he would rename the club to Hull Tigers? The way I look at it is that I'd much rather have the club still being in existence to support.
Interesting question. Personally I would have taken a risk on what happened as my affiliation is to Hull City not Hull being an East Yorkshire lad. My sons would more willingly accept it as they were born in Hull, and regardit as their home city and the club represents their home city even though we moved before they started school. Although one is saying he doubts if he would go if the name changes.Took years of stick as the only City fans at school but always told those taking the mickey that they supported their home town club and at least saw them regularly unlike them. Bear in mind they started going in the late 1980s so they stuck with them through bad times right from the start. I remember getting home after the Cardiff game and meeting my eldest for a drink and him announcing loudly in a pub full of Man Utd, Liverpool and TWS "fans" "none of you phoney gloryhunters will ever get the feeling I had today watching MY team". Anyway, to get back to your point I have a feeling that a lot would have accepted it. And if they had it would have given legitimacy to it. However the fact he didn't and only came out with it later after his fall out with the council suggests there were other reasons other than marketing. The fact he lied about the time scale and hasn't conducted any research into the benefits before going ahead as he said he would reinforces that view. A shame because he should be lauded and have his name sung at games in appreciation but this Hull Tigers nonsense has soured what should be a great time for us.
