Yep, thought it was great myself!
Off-topic question though, does anyone here (assuming we are all welsh) actually know the British national anthem word for word? Interested to know.
I thought the opening ceremony was fantastic, the hoisting of the forged Olympic rings from the Industrial age setting was spectacular and something that nobody else will be able to follow EVER !!
That will be an Iconic moment in Olympic History for sure.
The Olympic Cauldren was also quite a superb site to behold, we should be proud that we can as a country still pull off great things now and again, we may not have the money and sheer volume of workers like other countires but we certainly have great vision, design and creativity. These have been the key subjects that have made us a great country,it was nice to be reminded that we as a country still have alot of postive qualities, well done to Danny Boyle for creating a wonderful spectical .
Oh yeah and Macca was crap and has a mouth like a Cat's arse
Agree 100%, the industrial age with the forging of the rings was stunning. Mary Poppins coming from the Sky, just quintessentially British. Loved Mr Bean, and him doing a Zola Budd brilliant. The design of the cauldron and letting youngsters light it was inspiring.
All I say now bring it on!!!!!!
As a Welshman i have no need to know it. Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is our national anthem.
Agree with you and classy Jack. Thought everything about it was brilliant and loved the fact that the Olympic "legends" who nominated the kids for the lighting the flame but were from all 4 parts of the UK. Think they got everything absolutely right
Exactly! Same here, although a fair bit of the English cant seem to grasp why I don't know it.
On the topic though, I thought the music was great also, showing the different generations right up to the modern day. Great stuff!
The Sex Pistols are a joke, Jonny Rotten is a joke, Sid Vicious was a joke.
Why ?

Makes me laugh that an Aussie has such strong opinions on the way Brits should live. Most Scots don't want full independence - just see what happens when they vote on it. Ditto Wales. Most people love the Queen here. (I'm not a royalist btw, far from it).
The opening ceremony was absolutely brilliant - and quintessentially British. Quirky, funny, arty and different - just like us. Having lived in Oz I fully understand why they didn't get it. Even 'Only Fools and Horses' flopped there on T.V.
It highlighted our greatest gifts to the world - organised industry and the arts - in particular, music through the decades.
Although the Sydney & Beijing openings were flashier I thought this one was much more human and didn't take itself quite so seriously.
Top marks from me.![]()
Mabon - you're entitled to your view even if it is bigoted.![]()
