opinions are like a$sholes, everyone has one, fk off queen and your money grabbing as%wipe family, give Scotland independence and the english economy will be more fuked than it is now
Agree 100%, the industrial age with the forging of the rings was stunning. Mary Poppins coming from the Sky, just quintessentially British. Loved Mr Bean, and him doing a Zola Budd brilliant. The design of the cauldron and letting youngsters light it was inspiring. All I say now bring it on!!!!!!
He's way overrated, I thought he was crap at the Diamond Jubilee and he was again last night. Should have had the Stones on.
Agree with you and classy Jack. Thought everything about it was brilliant and loved the fact that the Olympic "legends" who nominated the kids for the lighting the flame but were from all 4 parts of the UK. Think they got everything absolutely right
Exactly! Same here, although a fair bit of the English cant seem to grasp why I don't know it. On the topic though, I thought the music was great also, showing the different generations right up to the modern day. Great stuff!
The trouble is far too many are prepared to do this country down , if you don't agree with it then don't watch it ,I didn't plan the watch it but did and I must admit to enjoying most of it and the bits I didn't I still appreciated the effort and work that must have gone into it , even some knob on the radio this morning was spouting that the whole event had a left wing slant FFS. The Queen as Head of State opened it as should be expected .Any one want to moan why not about Beckham , an average player who's self promotion is unbeliveable at times . rant over
As an Englishman I think the problem is that we (not me personally) have hijacked GSTQ for our own anthem - that's part of the reason we get accused of not having our own identity I think. Under those circumstances, quite why anyone would expect the Scots and Welsh to sing it is beyond me. Anyway, I'd rather have the Welsh anthem as it's a damn sight more stirring and motivational than the dirge we're lumbered with!
Firstly the Sex Pistols always produced a very low quality of music - and I'm a fan of 'extreme' (shall we say) underground music, I don't say that from the view of a pop music fan. They are very far from what is considered punk, and in reality were only influential for a very small period. Jonny Rotten is the biggest sell out since records began. They picked Sid Vicious not because he could play an instrument, but because they liked the way he styled himself. He was always a dreadful musician. They did, however, get lucky and produce an iconic song.
Makes me laugh that an Aussie has such strong opinions on the way Brits should live. Most Scots don't want full independence - just see what happens when they vote on it. Ditto Wales. Most people love the Queen here. (I'm not a royalist btw, far from it). The opening ceremony was absolutely brilliant - and quintessentially British. Quirky, funny, arty and different - just like us. Having lived in Oz I fully understand why they didn't get it. Even 'Only Fools and Horses' flopped there on T.V. The rest of the world really does have a different sense of humour from us and they're poorer for it. Was definitely one of the things I've missed the most when I've lived away. The ceremony highlighted two of our greatest gifts to the world - organised industry and the arts - in particular, music through the decades. Although the Sydney & Beijing openings were flashier I thought this one was much more human and didn't take itself quite so seriously. Top marks from me. Oh, and sorry Macca. Loved you in your day but time to pack it in mate.
No need to insult me, musty. It's nothing personal. I think I'm in a better place to judge the independence issue don't you? The Scots will vote for greater autonomy but not full independence because they know they'll lose too much. If I'm wrong then good for them. There's no appetite for it in Wales at all, and you can take that as read.
knackered i doubt most welsh people have any time for the royal elite, you may well have a shock when scotland does vote, we are a union that is slowly but surely breaking up, and no amount of we are in this together olympic bull**** is going to stop the process. i had better things to do than watch that rubbish last night, but i doubt there was much reference to the acheivements that Wales has brought to the table on this island, it was the efforts of this small nation that fuelled the industrial revolution .
Nah. I like you Mabon and your football posts are normally very good but you despise England and its people. That's obvious. That's bigotry so the cap fits. Sorry.
