    And so it begins <doh>

"The mods from “over the road” seem to think there’s nothing to be worried about.

So if they’ll be okay why not this forum?"

After relentlessly ridiculing this forum they'll be begging to come here if RTG shuts down ...

... Pancho will be in floods of tears if he can't act the big shot and ban people who disagree with him <laugh>

Forums need to come together to find ways round this ridiculous rules.

Both forums have their good and bad points, but both are very important to lots of people, if the owners/ mods on here can find a way around things that suits RTG as well, then that's a win for everyone imo

You have a point but it has to be said RTG have already shifted their thread off the front page ...

... just as they always do with anything they can't cope with.

Anything, even slightly contentious is either deleted or hidden ... I don't fancy their chances tbh.

The presence of anyone offensive, insulting or trolling will kill certain sites <whistle>

Their thread is a sticky so its permanently on the front page?

As these are the 2 busiest safc forums there is bound to be comments on both boards about what is being discussed, hopefully rtg and not606 both can find a way around the new laws and people can continue to postbon which ever they see fit

It was on PF and was shifted to SMB.

As more people read the smb, it's also a sticky on the politics sub forum.

Not sure what your point is? It's not being hidden, but is clearly am issue for an awful lot of forum owners and moderators

Over the last ten years, probably more, anything contentious goes off PF, to SMB then Parsnip if it's too difficult.

Anything to do with players being charged, or whatever, is taken off PF and a warning issued.

Happens all the time, PF is the main forum irrespective of the volume of posts.

Looking at the new rules I think they are after the big boys Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, X etc in a similar manner to the GDPR legislation, which has very similar financial penalties.
A lot of these big corporations have done little or nothing to remove dangerous or illegal content and prevent underage grooming.
Ofcom only have limited resources and will only go after ‘worthwhile’ targets
RTG and Not606 will not be high on their list.

    True …

… but thinking that doesn’t mean everyone will be willing to take the risk.

It’s not as if these forums bring in big profits.

There are hundreds of thousands of little forums dealing with every topic under the sun. There will be exemptions or less onerous restrictions on small online discussion groups. Nothing to worry about.

I agree that lumping all the forums and self help and charity groups in the same pot as the big fish does not help anyone. However all of these websites should already be following GDPR guidelines and will probably have similar processes in place to deal with requests / complaints. The main change for this site is age verification and the risk of harm to minors.
I don’t think there are many u18s on this forum (although at times I do wonder <laugh> ) so the risk to minors is negligible.

Having looked into this and speaking to someone who owns a different forum to this one , I would make mine read only and sail into the sunset. The regs are ridiculous and no way can most places confirm. Time and cost simply outways.

X will be the main target. The stuff that can be found on there with people wanting to make their fame and fortune with adult content they sell on another site. Porn clips basically! I am not 100% as I don't use any of them but I think the others at least try to police it?

i am actually pleased they are finally attempting to lower the risks, i mean, how many times has an innocent 'search' been put into an engine only to throw up some stuff you really do not want to see.

the problem that i see is the internet in general and always has been, many moons ago i went searching for a good MP3 site and a 'warez' site showed up, at the time 'warez' were known to have some good sites so i clicked on it...next thing i knew there were multiple, non stop pop-ups, fast as i closed one down others popped up, unfortunately most of the pop-ups were links to porn and some for child porn, i sh1t myself as they all seemed quite graphic, luckily i had a little knowledge and managed to stop them all and delete the lot, followed by a full format in reinstall.

the ISP's have become stricter over the years of course but many people know how to 'get around' some restrictions, i really want to know how much effort will be put into finding 'false flags' because we all know there are people that do not like football (or any other subjects) who would make an effort to get sites closed down...and being a radio operator i know how limited ofcom are in resources.
