Hello Everyone,

I've been made aware of your concerns today, and have sought to find some answers in relation to them.

So first up your concerns are fully understandable because I know this forum is a valuable online community to you, so please relax we intend on complying with all legislation that is required for a forum our size.

Here's an interpretation of those rules for small sites...

https://russ.garrett.co.uk/2024/12/17/online-safety-act-guide/

We can comply with all of this and it looks like Ofcom will come to us and give us a warning if they think your site is not compliant.

I have today raised all this with the site owner and he is aware of it and has been doing his own research on the topic. We will naturally seek our own legal advice to ensure we are compliant as well.

I'm not aware of any under 18's on the site, as far as I'm aware we are forum of mainly men (all over 18) with some women (over 18), this will also aid us going forward to ensure any under 18's are blocked in the future.

Sorry I can't be any clearer for now, but we also have to be careful not to make public statements until such time we have ensured our house is fully compliant.

Once again thank you, and please don't panic we are not going anywhere.

Top man. Thanks. Wouls hate to lose this little village, which is what it feels like to me. As an exile it such a massive connection to 'home'.

That’s good to hear, there are quite a few unable to get to matches but feel part of it all by posting on here.

My biggest concern is that NOT606 continues but RTG doesn’t. That would almost instantaneously turn this forum into RTG with all the cliques, madness, Mags, internet warriors and wise guys that’s ruined their site.

Despite the occasional dispute, and fall out, this place is virtually self-policing and as good as I’ve ever seen it.

I have an IT degree and consider myself quite tech savvy. I’ve never used Reddit and every time I go on it, it confuses the hell out of me :D
It's sort of like this site. You're on the Sunderland section now but not606 has loads of different teams, that's reddit but as well as every football club, it has sections (subreddits) for pretty much every subject you can think of. You can just visit the Sunderland bit and never see any of the rest of the site, or you can join the Sunderland subreddit, which then puts posts from the subreddit on your home page (any subreddit that you join can appear on your home page).

I'm not sure owt will happen really though, I suspect it'll end up like the Net Neutrality thing from a few years ago and the average online user won't notice a difference.

Sorry for posting this, I read elsewhere this morning and thought it deserved a bigger audience.

Sound like you have it under control, but I imagine lots of other forums are worried and as we have seen today, these little places are quite important to a lot of people

Nothing to apologise for Chunk, I'm actually pleased you brought it to my attention, because it enabled me to go away and ask questions. So well done mate.

Hopefully you all can sort it and people can behave and realise if a post is pulled it's for their own benefit as it's breaking a rule.

Modding this site must be hard enough without the thought if someone contacting an ombusmdsman to complain

Gutted to hear this. I hope we have an IT wizard amongst us who can build something that we can all migrate to.

The only other thing I can think of is VPN's, but how many of us would be prepared to pay for that service?

Don't worry mate, if all else fails I'll set something up and take the consequences.

If the TV Licence people, Edinburgh parking violation department and Mansfield library overdue book section can't get me ...

... no one will <laugh>

Just do what me mam used to do and turn the lights off when they come round and hide behind the couch, worked with the provvy man

The lfgss description of it is excellent. It looks to be end of forums. Not sure how this place could navigate it all. Maybe set it up as international and ensure members use vpns to access?

Make it private and not public and charge a fee, not sure that would get round the regs or not??

Or we all jump ship and make a private discord and chat on there?

Not sure there is any other loop holes and this place is likely to be gone for good.

I don't go on rtg anymore but that place is huge and so many people communicate on there.

You can set up something similar to this on Telegram.

My mum used to send me to answer the door and tell him she wasn't in! So embarrassing <doh>
I've never been a convincing liar, so he must have seen it written all over my face :emoticon-0111-blush
My mam knew better than to do that, not only was I a crap liar I’d end up telling the truth. I didn't have much conniving in me !
