You see this on the PL pages on socials all the time, talking about how they lost their bets and such not about the game.

Like you say there is that knuckle dragging minority within any clubs fan base, but it’s weighty on them pages.

I’ve seen them wishing death on wools on the PL Facebook pages age for drawing a game etc.

I agree - said earlier I do think gambling plays its part in this. I’m guilty myself, I’ve called players worse than **** from the stands when someone has cost me a lot of money. But I’ve said it to my mates.. I called the referee a c*nt yesterday for not booking Sander Berge for his third offence when I had him to be carded. I’m sure most fans have at some point called out a player, referee or even a manager for a poor performance. But wishing death upon someone, sending abuse to them or their family privately and/or reverting to racism is just braindead. It’s actually quite cringeworthy to be honest.

I spent some time in the Caribbean when I was younger, and some of the racist abuse given by some lighter skinned black people to some very much darker skinned black people was a real eye opener!
I worked in Namibia a few years back and they had a 3 tier carry on blacks at the bottom browns in the middle then whites it was crazy

The problem the racists have is that they've missed the boat <laugh>

Excuse me for laughing but I didn't realise how funny that was until I started writing it.

What I meant isn't to do with the boat people, it's to do with the minefield this country set out for itself.

We invaded half the world and plundered endless countries, claimed them as British then bailed out when we'd had enough of them. Nevertheless we've continued to interfere and decide which of their leaders we'd allow to live and which we'd kill.

We expected help in WW2 and expected those countries to send their men to be slaughtered. Hitler didn't declare war on Indians or Pakistanis but they came to our aid, laid down their lives and all for a passport some chose to accept.

What the racists want to do is unravel a century of these facts and go back to a mythical time when everyone was white, had nice jobs and a lovely little cottage. Sorry lads but that time never really existed and you can't go back in time. You may believe Nigel and think you can somehow 'make Britain white again' but you can't.

What you really need to do is accept what Britain did and accept the consequences. The Empire made a handful of the rich ever richer while the working man got sod all out of it ...

... people like Farage, Boris, the Monarchy and co, who still don't care about working people or those they exploited.

It is such a shame our society has not evolved into being equitable and striving for equality.

But, we're living in a rage baited society where we are turned against one another to deflect and to keep us seperate.

We are busy bees living peacfully in a huge jar labled the UK, then we have the people on the outside shaking it making us turn on each other.

Ironically British racism is more subtle and usually comes across more to do with clunky language than with genuine hatred or malice, that's why you get more push back from British people when they're being accused of being a genuine racist, some places abroad do not seem to care at all if they're being called a racist.

I had an older member of my family ask me something about our newly built team that some would consider racist, knowing the person well, I understand that the inquiry was genuine and without sinister motives, so I am able to answer it honestly, that said I'm glad they asked me and not someone they don't know as well.
I agree with what you've said, someone doesn't have to be racist to use racist language. From personal experience and observation it's often either clunky language and/or poor education or a lash out using a term to be personal, something to hurt someone individually. Like using homophobic language to a gay person, calling a woman a "slag" or a "whore" etc. I've found/seen it's either someone using a personal insult just to get at an individual or using it as a deflection because they're wrong but can't admit it.

I've got a mate who works in the jobcentre who says at least a couple of times a week someone will come out with "if I was black/an asylum seeker I'd get everything", generally the ones coming out with it are ones who've never worked for years and claimed benefits but now have to do something and they don't want to, or are ones who aren't entitled to anything because they've got loads of savings.

None of that excuses it and if you're using any kind of discriminationary language even if you aren't actually racist/misogynst/homophobic/etc. it just shows that you're actually just a nasty, unpleasant, spiteful person.

And as if to prove a point again, I've just been sent this from a mate.

The difference between that and being in around the premier league as a pro is like saying winning the euro millions and your are on the same level as Musk, Bezos and co!

Excuse my knowledge on all things social media as I don’t use it and never will ( although I use WhatsApp,does that count) but how hard is it to find and prosecute these lowlife cretins

Language on the internet is like a gun, dangerous if used carelessly.

Even on a little chat forum, like this, you'll see people excuse themselves by saying, 'They're just words on an internet page'.

There's nothing wrong with speaking your mind, or being blunt, providing you back up what you're saying ...

... but, as we've seen with this latest abuse, some people can only voice their opinions anonymously.

I’ve seen the message that was sent to Romaine. No idea if it’s the only one, just one of them was posted. From a foreign account.

Obviously racism needs to be dealt with and stamped out but if he’s had a wobbler over one troll behind a keyboard sending a message then he needs to toughen up imo. It’s been all over SSN this weekend and it seems like there’s been a few incidents with other players at Rangers, Chelsea, Burnley and Wolves targeted.

Maybe it’s just me, I just don’t understand someone being so emotional over words on a screen from a blatant troll account. From a young age probably all the way through school and even into your work life you’re going to come across c*nts and bullies who have too much to say. If we all took time off or had a meltdown every time someone said something to provoke us or mock us, we’d have sick records longer than Jack Rodwell.

These messages don’t even get through to the persons normal inbox, you have to go into spam messages or requests to actually see them. What’s the point? Just delete it and move on with your day. Why even give these people the satisfaction of ruining your day? They’ve hardly turned up at your front door. It’s a frigging message on an app. To put it into context for me it’s like going into your junk emails and finding one that’s randomly trying to extort you or phish your details then taking offence.

These people probably send these kind of messages to dozens of footballers, I doubt it’s a first offence. If it’s a local fan then fair enough, name and shame. Give the twat a clip. Ban him for the ground. But realistically if it’s a foreign account, unfortunately nothing will be done. Toughen up and move on because it’s probably not going to stop unless the player has the common sense to turn off message requests so random people can’t message him.

It’s not anymore, and prosecutions do happen.

Not enough but it does happened. There’s also name and shame cases and this has cost people their jobs etc.

Harsh as that can be it really is ‘reap what you sow’ the company I work for is incredibly diverse in terms of work force and if I was lashing out racial abuse I’d absolutely expect to be fired.

Whenever this happens even at other clubs that doesn't effect our fans, I think about the fact it could come from foreign accounts in countries where saying racist **** is acceptable and I think clubs release a statement saying "initial investigations would suggest they come from outside the UK and may have different views in racism but the club still doesn’t want to see this etc.." then if it can be shown thats its not a fan of the club bit a foreign fan of 'whoever is winning this season" who appears more upset about losing a bet that should be made clear and if it's a fan the club should make it clear that they are a fan but not the type of fan the club wants or that the fans want following the team!

All people see is x club fans racially abusing player! It doesn’t help and I always wonder does that player end up thinking its the club fans in general are like that?

I don’t think for a second this incident is suddenly going to make all of our players think we have a racism issue at the club.

Listen to the songs we sing, Mayenda chant for example as a staring point, the interactions we have with Nordi and Noah and such.

It can happen anywhere and players know this. They won’t all suddenly be seeing a dark cloud over the club.

What do people make of this tourettes incident at the BAFTAs? A man with tourettes who was backstage (I believe he was in an award winning documentary about the condition) involuntarily shouted the N word at black individuals as they were making an acceptance speech. This has caused a debate online about if he was intentional in shouting the slur despite his condition.

I do sometimes think this when I see documentary about it, if you had tourettes you could say some things and blame ot on the condition but what is more likely is he thinks of the stuff he shouldn’t shout and that makes him shout it! People who aren't racist don't look at a black person and think the N word, which is right but what if you spend your life worrying about what you are going to shout out next?

I do that and I don't have Tourettes ...

... if I get something in my head that I definitely shouldn't say it's a terrible struggle not to blurt it out.

God knows what it must be like having that condition.

I think a lot of this type of behaviour would stop if the social media platforms insisted that you had to use your real name as your user name and provide proof of identity prior to being able to create an account.

People love hiding behind persona's but are a lot more reserved when they have to put their name to it
