Having watched yet another creativeless display from the Mags against Villa, the player from the past to bring back would "obviously" have to be Peter Beardsley
Genetics. Not necessarily, because genetics play are part in who can reach the requirements athletically Today.
We're saying the actual player of the past playing now not a hypothetical one... Otherwise it's reaching.

This argument implies that sports players have evolved through time into fitter and technically-better players but that flies in the face of scientific data that shows that overall the human race is less athletically-fit than it was 50years ago.The dinosaurs picking players that wouldn't be any good Today.
I'll go with Gascoigne though

The reason standards have improved is due to better training methods, better diets, better recovery processes and the use of statistics etc to monitor player fitness. Improved boots and balls have also made a difference. These have not only improved player skills and fitness but also prolonged playing-life and also led to quicker and better injury recoveries.
There is no evidence to suggest that top players from 50years ago couldn't compete with top players today if they had access to the same facilities and methods that today's players do. Same applies to most, if not all, sports.
