On this day 7 years ago, we beat Liverpool 1-0 in the final PL match of our first season back in the top flight.

Danny Graham’s 14th goal of the season proved the difference in what would be Brendan Rodgers’ final match in charge before succeeding Kenny Dalglish at Anfield just a few weeks later.

There was a carnival atmosphere at the Liberty Stadium with many of the Jack Army dressed as Elvis Presley - a quip made by Rodgers after the media suggested in the previous August that there was more chance of seeing the famous singer than the Swans beating the drop..... <laugh>

SWANSEA CITY SUFFERED PLAY-OFF FINAL HEARTBREAK AGAINST BARNSLEY AT THE MILLENNIUM STADIUM ON MAY 27, 2006.

Having won promotion in the Swans’ final campaign at Vetch Field, Kenny Jackett’s side had enjoyed a fine 2005-06 season in the third tier.

They finished the regular season in sixth place, and beat Brentford 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off semi-finals.

That set up a trip to Cardiff – Wembley was being rebuilt at the time – to take on Barnsley, who had seen off Huddersfield in their semi-final.

The Tykes struck first through Paul Hayes, but the Swans levelled thanks to a spectacular Rory Fallon goal.

Andy Robinson gave the Swans the lead before the break but former Vetch loanee Danny Nardiello made it 2-2 just after the hour mark.

Alan Tate and Lee Trundle both missed big chances to win it for Jackett’s men before a painful penalty shootout.

Tate and Bayo Akinfenwa then both missed their spot-kicks and Barnsley were promoted.

My late father couldn’t watch the penalties and went down to the concourse.

Walking back to the car passed the old Buccaneer pub in the centre of Cardiff - some Blueturd b*****ds laughed ....

Wonder why I don’t have much time for them ....

Jackett did a fine job for us but again not backed as maybe he could have been .Losing at Wembley v Northampton was an even more miserable journey home ,
Oh god that was a terrible day. When the ref said re take the free kick I turned to my mate and said watch them score it now, the rest is history.

Man I remember the Barnsley supporters saying to me in the pub after the game, "we cannot believe we won that game, you must really be gutted, I know we would if it was us, you were by far the better team" all I can say about that night, is 'Allen bloody Tate'..............<laugh>

Me and my youngest went up , the view of the game was terrible the result worse then to travel back through their supporters was the icing on the cake. I remember queuing for what seemed a life time in the Builders trying to get coach tickets for me and the boy , I wish I hadn't bothered <wah>
