When I was a boy back in the early 60s my father used to take me to a cinema on the corner of Northumberland Avenue and Trafalgar Square on a Sunday afternoon. They showed cartoons followed by a film from that era such as Laurel & Hardy, The Three Stooges, Charlie Chaplin etc., all were masters of comic visuals and timing. We then would go into the Strand where there was a Lyons Corner Teashop and I'd have my favourite Iced Sugar Bun and an Orange Squash, simple but happy times...
I remember going to somewhere similar a couple of times with my Dad. Cartoons, a classic short and those Pathe style newsreels.

A you say, simple times. I feel very nostalgic for them. An old style Sunday, which bored me ****less as a kid, would be bliss now.

Genuine pea-soupers, I remember one in the early 60s that lasted almost two weeks, we couldn't see across the road and our school closed during the second week. That was just normal Autumnal fog, my mum said the smog in the 40s and 50s was really acrid. We're slowly going back to that type of air with all the diesel pollution. I stopped at Heston services today and the fumes from the motorway along with the horrible smell from planes the nearby airport was sickening...

Let's hope the Tractor Boys have the same hangover they had on Boxing Day 54 years ago!...

Just as an extra without Googling it, which two teams didn't play on that Boxing Day?...

I was one of the fans who turned up. Then my dad, who insisted on seeing live football on Boxing Day, drove round half a dozen other grounds to find one that had a match. Unsuccessful, so we went to a pub, to the best of my recollection.

The good old days where you could just rock up at a ground, pay on the gate and in you went (weather permitting)...
