The Tokyo Olympics will go ahead without any spectators as COVID cases surge. The Japanese think they should be cancelled, athletes are being locked away for the duration of the games and now there's no spectators. It's going to be a rather odd affair.
Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics after fans were banned from attending as a coronavirus precaution.
Winning medals will be a bit of a non-event for the athletes. These will always be the 'Olympics that never were'. My daughter got a first at uni last year. As well as no graduation ceremony and associated pissups she's already had the 'but that was in covid year wasn't it, all your exams at home...' message a few times.
IMO it should be cancelled and put back a year like the European Championship. If it goes ahead there will be a lot of withdrawals, which even for the athletes who compete will feel like a hollow victory if they win.
If it gets put back another year it gets too close for athletes and organisers to prepare for 2024. At least that's an argument I've heard.
It's not a cheap shot, I have nothing but respect for what the athletes are doing but you can't tell me that they wouldn't prefer to win a medal in a packed, cheering stadium with family and friends looking on.
The athlete village beds are designed to stop them all having sex! There will be a few other cautious withdrawals before it’s over https://grmdaily.com/anti-sex-bed-tokyo-olympics/
You misunderstood my comment. It was aimed at the prospective employers devaluing the degrees and exams which students have worked hard for.
