Off Topic Olympics

Wheeeeee!!!!! Great Olympian was our Eddie. Brave? Yes! A champion? Lol. Comparing him to Phelps should be a crime against humanity.

For me this event made up of the following is far tougher than a few boxing fights. Winning gold in this is more of an achievement, and Thompson was huge in the UK afterwards. He had more of an impact on me as a kid than Ali ever could. But Ali was still a great athlete and I was really sad he passed away a few months ago.

Day one
100-metre dash
long jump
shot put
high jump
400-metre run

Day two
110-metre hurdles
discus throw
pole vault
javelin throw
1,500-metre run

I agree Jager. Heptathletes and Decathletes are fantastic. You have to be brilliant at so many disciplines to win anything.

Eddie the Eagle: I'd like to think that as a country we've moved on and don't celebrate failure any more.

I'm not saying it isn't a awesome achievement ,I don't know how you got here from me saying one event per athlete ....this is one event .

Failure = opposite of success.

Eddie did stuff I could never do but never won anything and was a laughing stock to many. He even had trouble qualifying for events because he just wasn't good enough. The fact he represented his country was cringe-worthy. I may be in a minority but plucky loser stories don't do it for me.

Well that's one opinion to failure ....

That's it...keep telling me what I'm thinking. <doh>

Now how about stopping your obvious and rather petty sniping? Wouldn't that be a good start to the season? <ok>

Fair play though - comparing Eddie favouably with Phelps did give me a laugh. <applause>

The point is that there are degrees of being an icon in the Olympics, Ali for me was always a professional boxer, he was in the Olympics but made no real impact on the event, he was just an 18 year old kid in it, and really didn't do much in it.

" The Greatest Olympian " has a great life who just happens to have expierenced the Olympics .
" The Greatest Olympian in the Olympics " is a whole new ball game .
Leave it alone gents , apples and oranges .
When I think of " The Greatest Olympian " I think of Ali .
When I think of " The Greatest Olympian in the Olympics " , I'd have to give it a ton of thought

Perhaps you can point to a single post where I said Guidolin was a failure. I await your response with multiple links....or maybe not. <laugh>

So where are your links proving I said that Guidolin was a failure? Nothing to say? <laugh>
