    You old cynic.

GR was below par but still produced in the last round..he was lucky to medal after the young Yank dragged his hand in the sand but showed a lot of guts.

Mo was fantastic, great resolve to get off the deck and win..lovely running technique..wouldn't crush an egg under his foot...top bloke.

Actually quite pleased the trite and sanctimonious Ennis got beaten...a great young talent discovered in that master of none event.

Wayde van Neikerk's 43.03 is one of the outstanding efforts so far for me. And the massive run of Ayala in the 10,000.

And what's with this pointing of the drug finger stuff? I'm not saying people are dirty or clean, I'm just saying that it's bullshit to accuse athletes of wrong doing without proof. Test everybody, keep the samples, and if proven in time to have cheated, then kick them up the arse. Until then, just enjoy the spectacle for what it is. Why the need to smear **** on a lovely wall?

Was just too tired this time unfortunately, will have to watch the replays. My old dad always told me that the toughest race of all on the track was the 400m (400 yds then), and he was so right. Incredible run by van Neikerk, never thought I'd see the day with such a time. Good old Bolt, what a legend! Never seen a sprinter like him in my life, he just looks around and most of the time it seems as though he's out for a training spin in the park. Love the guy. I treasure the framed photo (which my daughter fixed-up for me) I have of him with Mo Farah taken during the 2012 Olympics. I will really miss them both after their retirement from athletics, which can't be far off, surely?

Fully agree with Cyc's comment (2nd paragraph) above this post. Absolute proof is necessary, to smear all athletes with cheating is pure conjecture, cynical, and sick too.

Andy Murray mens tennis singles:emoticon-0157-sun: had a hard fought match against Juan Martin del Potro (really good to see him coming back to his best after years of injury)

We've seen the likes of Bolt, van Neikerk, Ayala and Farah, but the game's are more than just about the superstars, they're about humanity and people at their best. The Irish rowing pair of Gary and Paul O'Donovan have not only given Ireland their first ever medal in rowing, they've also given the world a glimpse into the lives of a couple of nice blokes. There is a really warm moment in the interview when the winning French team joined them for a few seconds.

Well said, Cyc, but I have to slightly disagree with you about Van Neikerk.
His performance is and will be categorically the best at these Olympics. Not many athletes win from lane 8 in the 400 metres - flat or hurdles- or even 200 metres for that matter.
The only athlete I can recall winning from lane 8 in either 400 flat or hurdles is David Hemery all those years ago. I'd appreciate people telling me any others.
And add to it the fact he broke Johnson's great long-standing world record makes it extra special.Where he found that extra gear from in the home straight I'll never know.

If there wasn't swimming in the Olympics we'd have more gold medals than the USA. Incredible really.

Yep. They have 26 Golds but 16 from swimming. We have 15 but 1 from swimming. So 10 plays 14.

If the UK didn't win so many medals else where, the USA would be miles in front. :)

I think I'm going to shoot myself. I had to go outside to eat my lunch because he was giving me indigestion. Now I have to sit and suffer because my wife won't watch the dressage with it muted. Why can't they get a bloody commentator who can string sentences together without all these superfluous "a"'s every few seconds
