Both ARD and ZDF (usually the latter) can be total fruitcakes at times. They just have no idea what their own people want to see.

Oh for Christ's sake, the games have already been ruined for me. Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman won't be attending. What's the use? The IOC may as well just pull down the tent and call it quits. I don't understand how Craig and Kidman can be so ****in' uncaring. Selfish pricks.

So they think they are doing something about the drug cheats and they have warned everyone about the mosquitoes and the Zika virus. The Russians that have managed to get to Rio are going around looking for an armed fight and now one of the sportsmen has been arrested for allegedly raping a couple of the staff.

This sports extravaganza has not officially started yet, Nicole and Daniel are giving it a miss and already I have switched off...

I'm heading in the direction Moonie, I have the best seat in the lounge lined up in front of the screen. I've pretty much got the thirty second dash to the dunny down pat, and the missus is under starting orders when it comes to looking after all my personal needs for the duration of the games. :)

The Rio Olympics are now officially under way ......................

The lead up reminds me of a works football team evening out many, many years ago. Having remained single and childless(?) I have always remembered a conversation I had during that evening. The friend with whom I had the conversation was following and has followed, as far as I am aware, the more accepted lifestyle. He married in his early twenties to a young lady he met at the office and a couple of years later they welcomed their first child. Back to the evening in question; in our general company a young lady produced pictures of her newly born baby and, as expected and as conditioned, every male and female examined the snaps of the newly born commenting on how he/she was indeed a very beautiful child. My friend leaned over and whispered in my ear. What they mean is "not bad but not as sweet and cute as our wee cherub". This remark always stayed with me as I drunk, caroused and misbehaved through my twenties, thirties, forties, fifties and so far my sixties. There have of course been a few attempts at partnered bliss but the call of the wild, opportunity, different experiences (?) and general shenanigans have always drawn me back to the fray! Cannot recall if this is similar to an Al Pacino speech or from the Sopranos!

Anyway back to Rio 2016; I feel that after London 2012 'our' media and sports commentators are hoping that '2016' is not too successful in either sports attainment, general organisation or the welcoming nature and behaviour of the population. It just would not do to discover that people all over the world are mostly kind and generous and, can organise a sports event.

The Chinese view on the Rio olympics so far (based on organisation, accommodation, food etc) is along the lines of "Oh goodness, it's even worse than London" <laugh>

Does this not reinforce my general point?

Probably some ninety six (?) year old ex-member of the "Hitler-Jugend" still thinks there has never been an Olympics like Berlin '36! Coincidentally he will probably be a resident of Rio de Janerio!

Geez the water at the rowing is a rough old affair. They'll need arms like gorillas to get a medal.

Would have to be a clone of the 'good' doctor unless the old joker has lived to be one hundred and five!

I wonder what the rules are on this matter? Are the Olympic Games closed to all sentient beings except homosapiens or could, say, Rwanda train up a group of mountain gorillas? Only the thoughts of a contrary old codger!

He's daid, mon. Drowned while swimming and farting around on a beach February 7, 1979, at Bertioga, São Paulo, Brazil.

(This monster lived casually in his birthplace Gunzburg, Bayern, for 4-years after the end of WW2, protected by a very active Nazi underground, and with its help obtained a Vatican visa in 1949 and off to Argentina, fled to Brazil via Paraguay in 1959/1960. What the **** were the OSS, KGB, et al, doing all this time? Must have been pretty chaotic in those days. The Vatican issued hundreds of passports/visas to these Nazi swine, shame on them).

Cyc, I have nothing but admiration for your good lady. To look after all of your personal needs for the total duration of the Games, absolutely marvellous. I think the world of my better half, she's the best, but I dread to think what she might say if I asked her for such a 'personal needs' service over such a long period of time, and when I'm on the dunny too? The answer from her would be short and sweet, in Hochdeutsch, Bayerisch, and English in case I missed anything. <yikes>

Enjoy the Olympics mate, the time difference will be screwing me up for a start, but it's Australia and New Zealand's turn for a bit of fair timing. Very often it is lousy for you guys down there, timewise that is.
