I dont think the Saints win was lucky at all.

Rodgers made a couple of great subs and changed the system, which won us the game.

I agree.
And I don't think the City game can be described as a "bad" performance either. Yes, it could have been better, but we played the champions at their gaff with a team still nowhere near settled and gave them a decent game up until an unfortunate error.

yes rodgers made changes.... but we sat back and defended and frankly not once but twice only one team looked like scoring.

we got the goal not them... had they scored first we'd have lost

I feel we are not there in midfield honestly and while yes we need to settle the CMs should know the score!

Yes. And the ones I've spoken to said exactly the same thing. The first half was ours.

He has therefore yet to feature in any match, friendly or otherwise, since his arrival at Anfield - but at his pre-match press conference today, the boss reported a positive update.

"Adam will be in the squad, for sure," Rodgers told journalists gathered at Melwood. "He has looked fantastic in training.

"Of course he is well short of match fitness but in training for the last couple of weeks he has been exceptional."

Asked for a general fitness update, the Northern Irishman continued: "We'll see closer to the game. Young [Alberto] Moreno twisted his ankle, which was unfortunate, but he has been recovering well this week.

"Glen Johnson is probably the one that it could be difficult for, with a thigh problem.

"Jose Enrique has been back training for over a week, and looks very strong and fit. But, again, he hasn't had a lot of game time. We'll see over the next 48 hours.

"The group has been brilliant in training this week - the focus has been very good."

Rodgers suggested earlier in the week that his latest new recruit, forward Mario Balotelli, could be involved at White Hart Lane, and he has been impressed with the No.45 at Melwood.

He added: "Mario is fine, he has settled in very well. He has looked fantastic in training and he is a good lad. The focus is very much on his football and he has done very well."

Reporters quizzed Rodgers on whether he believed Balotelli would feel required to take on a greater share of the goalscoring responsibilities within the team.

The manager replied: "None more than the rest of the team - he's a member of the team.

"He is top quality, there's no doubt about that. He's a class act with wonderful football qualities - he can play with Daniel Sturridge, he can play up there on his own and he can play off the side.

"His concentration is very much on his football. He's settled in really well this week, he's moving to Merseyside and he's engrossing himself into the club and the people, but more importantly into his football. I'm looking forward to seeing that development over the coming years."

I imagine Lallana will be a sub.

I can see a bit of a selection headache between Markovic and Balotelli (which is a good thing) but of course the decision will come down to tactics. Pace on both wings or two strikers.

I don't understand what you are trying to prove with that link. Nobody cares what talksport listeners think.

Precisely that. A vote on who the most deluded fans are is utterly irrelevant.
No idea which vote MITO was referring to, though.

Fair enough, in that case, I agree <ok>

I have no idea what MITO is talking about 90% of the time, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen: Liverpool will need to be lucky if all their new signings pay off .

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...heir-new-signings-are-to-pay-off-9699123.html

Christian Eriksen recognises the rebuilding job at Liverpool only too well.

The 23-year-old was one of seven summer signings Tottenham made to offset the loss of star man Gareth Bale last summer.

Spurs have made a bright start to life under Mauricio Pochettino but this team, born from the ashes of Bale’s departure to Real Madrid, went through considerable growing pains.

A dismal record against the top four condemned Tottenham to another season of pressing their nose against the window of Champions League football, firmly shut out from Europe’s premier competition once more.

Liverpool arrive at White Hart Lane on Sunday aiming to prove their own reconstitution has more robust foundations after the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona helped fund nine new signings at Anfield.

A 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Monday raised questions over their ability to replicate last season’s second-place finish and Eriksen believes they could encounter similar problems to those that Spurs endured 12 months earlier.

“It is true that we went through [what Liverpool are now facing] last year,” said Eriksen.

“It will depend on what team they have and what the new players are bringing in. Everything has to fit.

“Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you are a bit unlucky. Last year we made some really good signings, I think. We were just a bit unlucky that nothing really ended up in a big thing. Of course, that can happen with Liverpool as well so sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you aren’t.

“I came late so for me it was a bit different. The first guy we signed [Paulinho] will have seen six other players come in and that was probably a bit weird for him. They are the new faces they have to see and it is a big deal when new players come in.

“When I came in, the four or five players before me I saw like everybody — they were all new players to me. We have a good group, though, so I haven’t seen any problems with anybody

End of the day our midfield is exactly the same and attack only lost Suarez who we lost for the first five games last season. Defence is the biggest issue which needs settling down and I expect them too. Spurs in the other hand finished the 12/13 season against Sunderland with this team:

25 Lloris
05 Vertonghen
20 Dawson
28 Walker
32 Assou-Ekotto (Sigurdsson - 83' )
02 Dempsey (Defoe - 73' )
06 Huddlestone
07 Lennon
08 Parker (Dembele - 64' )
11 Bale Booked
10 Adebayor

The team who started against Crystal Palace, the first game of the 2013 season:

25 Lloris
02 Walker
03 Rose (Kaboul - 86' )
05 Vertonghen
20 Dawson
07 Lennon
08 Paulinho
19 Dembele (Capoue - 57' )
21 Chadli
22 Sigurdsson
09 Soldado (Defoe - 83' )

They basically changed the whole team, we have not done so.
