I’m fairly certain the moderators wouldn’t show political bias, however, it’s very difficult with Robert Jenrick, as he’s not sure what his political persuasion is himself… or have I misspelled paymaster?
This is another good example of a post that could fall into humour or simply politics. I would think about deleting that because it is quite possible for someone to respond with 'flaws in the argument' and lead to what is purely a political exchange.

Again, I'm genuinely interested in other peoples opinions on the best way to keep the board balanced for all users. I do think this particular thread gets a fair amount of leeway, but I still see it having the boundaries pushed for political rather than humorous motives.

Using this as an example, what do other board users think?

I think it's a good example of the sort of post I could delete one day and leave on another day.
A big part of the vacillation would be how likely it is that it would generate tit for tat 'jokes' that are more aimed at political soapboxing.
I think I can comfortably say it would or will be took down,if it were something aimed at Boris Johnson or Trump it probably wouldn't.

As for tit for tat stuff eminating from it,yes more than likely.

There are 2 warring factions on here and ne'er the twain shall meet (or agree)...It's actually becoming the norm in life, not just anonymous forums.

These type of posts should always be fine !

The issue is people responding to the posts with political comments taking the thread off track (it's not even tit for tat jokes ) and yes i am one of the guilty parties pushing the boundries, always have, always will !

Fair points, however the question is, would you leave or delete it?

I'm glad that some of us can admit we're no angels instead of burying our heads in the sand.

This is true.

I confess that I'll delete some posts one day that on another occasion I may have left up. Sometimes it's context, other times it is just a gut feeling at that time and yes, personal bias is bound to be a factor, even if it's an unconscious bias. I'd argue it's impossible to be 100% consistent.

We've never discussed it between us, but I think it's fair to say that OLM and I seem to have different political views, but my view is that is a good thing, as it adds a touch of balance.

I've not checked the recent clean up, but I can't recall a time where I have seen OLM delete something I wouldn't have at least pondered over but it wouldn't surprise me if someone doing a deep dive found our own biases had at least some impact on which posts we delete and which we leave. We're only human, and trying to strike that balance between enabling different views, and cutting out fall outs before they start is a black art and we won't always get it right, but I think the prime consideration for both of us is what works best for the board users.
So basically you're both ****s. <laugh>

As I said, it's a black art where various factors play a part. It's reasonable for a mod to consider if it's posted by someone with a history of posting with a political agenda rather than simply posting humour.
So, who decides who has an agenda? People on here have consistently posted stuff about the Tories and Reform but it seems posts mocking Labour, without any direct comment, are deleted. Yet Labour are the ones in power and when the Tories were in power there were constant posts about what they were doing wrong. I was told when I asked why a post mocking Christianity wasn't removed that it was only a cartoon and to wind my neck in. More two tier attitudes.

The point you make about the response being the issue is key. I have no real problem with people pushing the boundaries. It often helps clarify what the consensus is, as despite how it appears, we try to emulate what the bulk of users want for the board, rather than simply pushing our own wishes.

It's been said time and again, but ultimately every poster is their own moderator.

Are you generally posting to inform, learn or challenge?

Me personally, I'd leave it but I admit to having a bias against him. If I were a moderator I'd have to take it down because I'd know exactly where it's leading..

I generality tend to leave the joke posts up, until they start to generate political comments and then I delete those comments, often with the joke as well (just to make sure they don't start again).
