I was in hospital yesterday, so moderated nothing, but I've removed the political posts now.

It would be most helpful if you whining ****ers could just moderate yourselves instead. <ok>
Funny, some time I ago I asked how some political posts and ones about Christianity remained and you said they were cartoons and get a sense of humour. Seems anything is OK as long as it doesn’t make fun of Labour politicians. Didn’t notice posts about Boris having a piece of cake disappearing or jokes about Dominic Cummings eyesight and other things connected with the then government doing instantly deleted.

There's only two of us and we both do what we think is best, we don't consult, but we rarely disagree either.
This is true.

I confess that I'll delete some posts one day that on another occasion I may have left up. Sometimes it's context, other times it is just a gut feeling at that time and yes, personal bias is bound to be a factor, even if it's an unconscious bias. I'd argue it's impossible to be 100% consistent.

We've never discussed it between us, but I think it's fair to say that OLM and I seem to have different political views, but my view is that is a good thing, as it adds a touch of balance.

I've not checked the recent clean up, but I can't recall a time where I have seen OLM delete something I wouldn't have at least pondered over but it wouldn't surprise me if someone doing a deep dive found our own biases had at least some impact on which posts we delete and which we leave. We're only human, and trying to strike that balance between enabling different views, and cutting out fall outs before they start is a black art and we won't always get it right, but I think the prime consideration for both of us is what works best for the board users.

Yes,we are only human, that's a fact.

I'm not sure what has been deleted but I suspect it was a couple of humorous quips about the current incumbent of 10 Downing St? Nothing serious from memory and I think I made a comment about him being sorry(or not)..

I wouldn't be a moderator on here for love nor money, damned if you do,damned if you don't but the one thing I would say is it requires consistency and some times on here it isn't overly consistent.

Like I say,I wouldn't do the job,I don't do the job and I do sympathise with you both at times because you have lives to lead and sitting sifting through hours of posts must be a tedious task...

We do try as best as we can to be consistent, but what is political and what is just funny or topical can be a really grey area. There have been some topic specific political threads that have worked very well, but experience has shown that a general free for all doesn't work because people get fractious, and that spills onto other threads.

This is primarily a football forum, but being a community obviously other topics get raised. The problems in part are people trying to push the boundaries for whatever reason. That is a factor in the lack of consistency.

This ok then ?

Using this as an example, what do other board users think?

I think it's a good example of the sort of post I could delete one day and leave on another day.
A big part of the vacillation would be how likely it is that it would generate tit for tat 'jokes' that are more aimed at political soapboxing.

Why would a funny parody of Barry Manilow’s Mandy be removed?

Leave it up because you're a ****, delete it because you're a ****, 'twas ever thus. :emoticon-0147-emo:

As I said, it's a black art where various factors play a part. It's reasonable for a mod to consider if it's posted by someone with a history of posting with a political agenda rather than simply posting humour.
