You would for two reasons.

First, I've never backed out of a bet in my life.

Second, it's very easy to sort out.
We can both place £1000 in an escrow account or with a solicitor of your choice.

Failing that, you nominate a bookie of your choice and we both place £1000 with him. After the bet has been won/lost he'll take his cut and pay out the rest to the winner.

So there you go big fella, I've removed your only possible objection and now you have no reason to chicken out do you?

AS to the OP, loved it and all the bleeding hearts whining.
The only one's who could get upset by it are the ones who were writing off MY club after a few games of the season.
I was pissed off as anyone at our bad start, but never wrote the team off.
We were playing some good football under PDC let down by serious individual errors, that PDC was stupid enough to be honest about and name names. (Me I agreed with him lambasting the ****ers and when you actually think back the ****ers made the effort to change their lackadaisical ways.)
Poyet has came in and the team has continued to improve and we have been extremely unlucky in a lot of games.
There are still areas where I can see we need to improve both tactically and player wise and I'm still going to have a moan about individuals being ****e or errors made by the manager.

But I wont write off MY team until it is mathematically impossible to stay up.

If starting a thread titled "**** off" and then aiming that abusive statement directly at many of your own fans isn't controversial then tell us, what is? You knew exactly the reaction you would get even from those it wasn't intended towards and posted it fully intending to get into many arguments over it. We had just won 4-1 away from home and seen AJ score a well overdue hat trick and yet you chose this moment to drive a wedge between supporters not unify us in our joy.

Its 'your thing' to cause more fights than handshakes on here and you have plenty form for offering to 'meet people round the back for a dust up' if they don't agree with you. You constantly like to tell everyone how successful you are and how you mix with the rich and famous in that sunny and idyllic climate and yet everything about your persona on this forum suggests you are not really a happy person with yourself. You come across far too bitter and full of anger to be comfortable in such exalted company and in return to have such company be at ease with you, which is a real genuine shame, as you can often be a very amusing and post some very intelligent contributions to these pages. I for one enjoy some of your comments (not all mind) about us and other clubs in general.

We as fans all like debate (thats why we come on here) but will never agree on all things and to be fair, the perilous state of the club this season had many of us depressed and despondent. Having witnessed 8 relegations in my 40 years, I think it was pretty evident that relegation under PDC was an absolute cast iron certainty, just as many thought it was under MoN. I now believe both sentiments to be probably true and with 1 point form the first 8 games, I feel it wasn't just the doomsayers that were posting on here thinking we would be relegated but rather many very concerned and passionate fans who just wanted change. We should all now feel incredibly relieved that Gus has taken up the challenge here, a relief you didn't exactly extend by telling a huge portion of them to '**** off' did you?

You are no more loyal or passionate than the next supporter Smug but I do get the feeling in your mind at least, you really do think you are 'the' most passionate and 'the' most loyal in the world. I'm afraid to tell you you're not. Sunderland AFC is an institution that belongs to everyone, not the individual and I welcome EVERY loyal fans opinion, even if at times I will passionately voice my opinions in contradiction to them. You got EXACTLY what you sought in opening this thread and cannot be surprised that there have been many voices telling you that you were wrong to start it with such language.

Time to get behind the lads? The time was the first game against Fulham and should have been maintained. All of our own who wrote us off months ago should be ashamed. Personally I don't care if the time is now for them to change their tune. The was to much jumping ship at the sign of a repairable leak. Lucky they can reach the ladder and climb back aboard.

Shame on then for stunting the lads ambition. Fair do's if they were in the premiership but they're not, they need to accept that players will out grow them in the championship and they shouldn't stand in their way.

Lots of clubs are. But it's not turning down an offer, it's a blatant block to keep a talented player who ambition and quality has out grown his own club's, even if if they do carry ambition. No problem in them driving the price up or even pricing us out of a move, but they're telling him personally point blank he can't continue his promising career elsewhere. I think it's harsh myself and they've shot themselves in the foot as a lack of ethical empathy for one of their own employee will probably be met with an unethical attitude from the player just like we've seen time and time again with this situation. Only Brighton will suffer here. I mean, they're sniffing about the playoffs but at present they can't guaranty or offer him anything more than championship football by keeping him.

Just because you're off and on the band wagon more times then my lass has been on and off the rag in her entire life, doesn't mean I'm a kiss arse for having an opinion with staying power that happens to agree with another poster who's opinions also have staying power.
