Got a nice Washburn acoustic iv'e had for 12 years.A lot more exspensive guitars iv'e tried fail to better it. My electric is a crap tele copy (Johnny Brook). Im thinking of getting a Danelectro £170 on line,as funds don't stretch far. Does anyone know if theyr'e any good ?

The Danelectro is surprisingly good for the money, you need to play it through a half decent amp, but it's really nice to play and despite me having some expensive kit, I play the Danelectro a fair bit. I only actually paid £99 for mine, which is a bit of a bargain when you consider that their pedals can cost more.

That backs up the reviews iv'e been reading, cheers for that. I just need a decent electric.

as we're going off piste a bit......

GTT, you either live out in the sticks or you have deaf neighbours, I tried a "real" drumkit, only a cheapy to see how it would work out a few years ago. it was far to loud so couldnt use it much, now I have a Roland TD9KX electronic kit and it works out fine for practising with headphones late on a night, plus I can trigger samples etc if needed via midi so better suited to my needs.

I've been noodling around recently on the guitars in me slippers just messing around, as you can tell, cos I'm planning on setting up a YouTube channel properly at some point to catalogue the sounds possible from my guitars at some point but I think it gives a good sense as to the range of sounds from them.

Any tips on Youtube channels, playing properly or indeed recording the sounds greatly appreciated.

Some nice sounds coming from your guitars GTT, I dont know what recording gear you,ve got, but if you have a decent audio interface, and DAW, then you could either go via a DI box or better still mic one of your cabs up with something like a Shure SM57. Like your idea of a youtube channel, good luck with it.

thx trax - it was just the microphone on the camera - i'll be starting from scratch so your advice is appreciated!

I could tell it was a camera mic GTT, as it also picked up a lot of your room up, I often mic a small Vox amp up in a seperate room , so that i hear the sound i,m recording through my monitors. I record dry (no effects/reverb etc) and use a Shure SM57 touching the amp cloth at the edge of the speaker cone, or sometimes may use two mics the other being a Beyerdynamic soundstar Mk2 to record the room aswell, you also get different tone depending where you mic placement is, so you may have to experiment to see which is suited to you and you situation/room etc. After I,ve tracked the guitarI can then add any effects during mixdown or add some of the room if I want . I also own a Line6 Pod X3 Pro amp simulator which I can record direct into my DAW (Sonar 8.5 Producer) via USB, spdif or line in via my mixer. Sorry if i,ve not explained very well but there,s loads of bumf on recording guitars on the net.

Homerecording.com is a good place to start , a friendly forum .

Recording.org is another good forum for bouncing about ideas.
