Now for United.......

Now we've cleaned away the mess that hit the fan in Roma, how do we put out a team for United?
Are Luiz, Bakayoko and Morata still carrying injuries? Is Kante ready, and how about Drinkwater? Buggered if I know. So here's a team with opinions.

GK
Courtois.......JUST Willy was almost perfect against Everton, Courtois has been mediocre in his positioning but made a couple of excellent saves.

Right Back
Rudiger mix up with GK was embarassing but he's been going well.
Centre back
Luiz or Christensen one is slightly off , other is improving quickly . Toss up
Left back
Azpi, absolutely no contest

Midfield
Drinkwater
Kante They should know how to play together and at least give a semblance of solidarity. Bakayoko on current form will get eaten alive by Matic and Pogba ( if that's who plays) and Fabregas could come on for a cameo later if the game goes that way.

Right wing back
Zappa absolutely no one else with the pace or skill to worry United defence
Left
Alonso bit scratchy recently, but then who hasn't been ? Kenedy as sub.

Right forward
Pedro / Willian at their best, not much between them. Pedro a bit more direct and we've faffing around too much lately. Pedro knows where the Goal is and heads straight for it.
Left forward
Hazard stands out

Striker
Morata has to play at this level, but needs to stop being a sook and get stuck in.

Conte.
My advice, as if he needs it, is don't wait too long for people playing badly to improve "as the game goes on". That's what your subs are for.

PS Worth a try at playing 2 up front sooner or later. Maybe this is the wrong one, but you don't win if you haven't got a ticket.

I would be tempted to start Kenedy tbh. But he is a suspect Defensively.
So, Alonso + Dave on the left might still be perfect with Spanish & stuff.

Tony has no excuse of injury or anything.
Any 9 year old will pick out that team, but I don't see that happening.

Even if Tony starts with any two of the Holy Trinity. we will have our backside thumped.

But won't be surprised if Tony starts with all three of the Holy trinity. That will be massive statement yet from Tony.

Hey last but not least, Thibo needs to be benched.

To be honest the team should pick itself. Cahill is ready for the tip and Fabregas simply cannot play this many games in a row. United will not give him the space he needs to play and Jose will capitalise on that.

Give some of the fringe players a whirl. Some of our youth just won the World Cup ffs, it doesn’t get any bigger than that!

 

I agree with your sentiments, however I just don't see Conte taking chances as his selections this season against the top flight tend to be conservative; whenever we come up against top opposition he tends to clam up - I will be surprised if we get anything out of this game esp the way our defence has been playing.

That looks pretty good too, apart from Fabregas. If we play 3 in midfield surely we need a defensive mid or at least one that can do a passable impression. Fabregas will spend the whole game chasing shadows against the pace of United. Put in Bakayoko, and your team looks pretty solid. Play Pedro or Willian as 3rd midfielder and we gain some attack. I think either would be better than Fabregas for this one. Isn't it fun being able to play manager with a keyboard !!!!

 

I think having Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Kante is a bit too safe, especially for a home game. Fabregas would offer more in an attacking sense.

 

I'd play a 4 2 3 1 for this.Take JM by surprise.If not feel we'll get turned over.
