I work in heavy construction for the supply of ready mixed concrete, for a company that also supplies aggregates, cement and asphalt.construction sites (not a clue why they were exempt in the first wave).
Without us working, the roads could not be repaired, hospitals could not be built. From major infrastructures HS2 and Hinkley down to houses being built.
The list of tradesman, office workers, cleaners, road sweepers. All purchase from the local shops. Then you’ve got the suppliers that go into these buildings. You will be surprised what construction brings to areas along with dirty roads and lorry’s everywhere.
If construction stops, the chain stops and that’s when we hit recessions. My late dad said we seem to the start of recessions and then lead us out of recessions. And he’s right, I knew something was brewing in 2008 when the amount of specifications I was vetting was dropping and complaints I was attending was increasing as companies was reigning money back in.
And that is why Boris and co wanted in my opinion construction to carry on.

Or am I misinterpreting?
