One of my great uncles married a widow from Northampton. She must have been ****ing good in bed because I can think of no other reason why he would have gone there to live with her.

Thanks FLT - that's very helpful as it goes - much approeciated
We are in London but we have had enough... have been stuck here for too long and yes 2 very young kids
My partner has family in Daventry so we are up that way a lot.
I think the surrounding countryside is really nice - places like Little Brington and Flore, Norton etc and the village pubs I really like a lot too.
I was thinking the town itself for the train and there are some nice houses that seem good value to me

I am told the Ye Olde England pub on the western side of the old race track is good for an ale and for that meet up !!
    I'll keep you posted !
    Cheers mate

I had a great aunt and uncle who lived in Market Harborough, which is just inside Leicestershire, so if you can´t get anything in Northampton, then check out MH.

I lived in Nether Heyford for 12 years which was a very pleasant village with a couple of decent pubs and importantly schools

We moved down to Somerset from Northamptonshire 3 years ago now after nearly a decade there. I would echo thoughts on Northampton as a town, though there is most things you would want there. That said, we would go into Market Harborough generally if we needed things. We lived in a village to the North and it was very nice - there are lots of similar places in the stretch between Northampton and Kettering. Pitsford was one of my favourite places around there - lots of lovely cycling around it and a great place for the kids. It's a fairly easy drive down to St. Mary's from there, though you will often get stuck in traffic, so leave lots of time.

    Yep.

Some nice villages around Northampton. I live in Blisworth, just SW of Northampton.

Just outside the town is sensible if you will commute on the train each day. Lots and lots of new houses going up too all over the county. I’d choose Northampton over Daventry for sure.

Let me know if you come up for a scout around and I’ll try and be available to show you about the area.

    Leicestershire is a lovely area.
I used to be a live in carer, and had a client in Sileby, whose brother played for the local rugby union club, in Syston (the Home of Pukka Pies), so used to visit various rugby clubs around the county, including Market Harborough.
Sileby and Syston are nice areas, with rail links to Leicester, which has a direct line to Kings Cross/ St Pancras.

I went to the fun-fair in Daventry and my friend was sick but I prefer Towcester as I always ask my wife if I should use when when I'm preparing breakfast.

In summary, my simple advise with Northants is choose which town you want to live near (say Daventry) then look at the surrounding villages to visit as there are plenty and generally lovely places to live and bring up a family unlike the towns

QPR supporter in Northampton. Northampton is a medium/larger sized town nothing more nothing less pretty much the same as most middle/larger towns some good areas and bad. Will echo some of what has been said on the thread, good villages about and even Kettering is getting developed a bit, however it's more their residents (Kettering) that need bringing out of the dark ages I believe for entertainment they have muck throwing and witch burning.

Have relatives in Towcester which is alright and yeah Blisworth is mostly nice. Just depends on what you are looking for is you want a nice quiet scenic place to live Stoke Bruerne is beautiful. Northampton itself just keep away from certain parts, they are pretty obvious by a quick drive round. Best pub in the town is the King Billy, well if you like decent rock music, it's a bikers pub and they are pretty much to a man a decent lot, if it says anything about the sense of humour in there if you were by any chance to order Fosters, when they are ringing it through on the till it comes up as kangaroo piss.

Good luck but keep away from the 'rugby' Saints as they are mostly a bunch of self important twats, the type that don't actually like nor understand sport and would bore you senseless about how Tarquin is getting on in cello lessons, how he is allergic to pretty much everything and the latest wine they have discovered from Peru that is a steal at £40 a bottle, even though the local corner shop are peddling out the exactly the same stuff for £6.
