Interesting thread though and it may remain to be seen if we did get the wrong NIGEL

Lots on here thought we'd got the wrong 'Mac' - i.e. McLean instead of Mackail-Smith - but I like our 'Mac'.

Adkins didn't do anything special at Scunthorpe apart from keeping them up and at Southampton he's had more money to spend than NP could hope for.
I rate NP as a much better manager.

He's also had his fair share of failures though (Watford's fall from the top of the league and play off loss and Coventry). Regardless of whether he got promotion through the play offs or not it was over 5 years ago now, he's done little of note since. He was hardly a name the likes of west ham, forest and birmingham were looking at over the summer in their quest for promotion which says it all really.
Adkins has done a good job at Southampton but i wonder if he's rather landed on his feet a little bit with the money and resources at his disposal. How he would have faired here with little money available we can only guess. Southampton remind me very much of Norwich last season, playing without fear and attacking and getting their rewards. But i don't rate Adkins as highly as Lambert and with a few injuries or loss in form will they keep going. I maintain that we got the right man for the job last summer and hopefully we'll continue to see progress over this season.

If NP left and we had the choice of any manager in this league, I'd take Poyet over Adkins all day long.

If Adkins can double up as physio, that may well get him the gig.

That and the correct level of servility of course.

I hear the players aren't happy - Adkins has already sent an email to the kitchen staff asking them to drastically reduce the amount of carbohydrates.

I’d be interested to know if your opinion has changed, with the aid of hindsight?

I'd still take Poyet over Adkins, though neither would figure on my list of preferred options.
