pretty sad really a bit of speculation is a little different than what Pompey and Leeds done - it needs to be done in moderation which, if Levy was the astute bean counter that some think he is, he would be able to do
well lads..ill see you back sometime soon no doubt....have a great evening and lets not let this one match get us down....long way to go..i did see the positives of AVB today. COYS.
I hope levy didn't need today to find out we need other striker options dona!! Haha ... but hopefully today was a big slap around the face!
Good grief. The financial has been explained, in detail, you choose to ignore it and continue to post this suggesting that any "normal" club can compete with Citeh and Chelski. There is little point in debating if you're just going to ignore the plain simple facts about the current PL economic balance. For the last time, we cannot spend like they do because they have no financial constraints! They spend more than we could possibly earn by football sources, they spend more than we could earn by being permanently in the Champions League. You are being completely unrealistic!!!
Just to make this clear, any further off topic comments will be deleted. If you still care, take it up with eachother on PM or another board
I don't think anyone has ever suggested that we try and compete with Chavski or Citeh, but to lose out on good transfer targets because you are tight is a joke
Good grief the finances are quite simple, I'll explain them to you again. In the case of Chelsea, i've been explaining it for nearly a decade. City and Chelsea have owners who back their club with cash, we don't. Many Spurs fans have said they don't want rich owners like City and Chelsea, well I do, and so do others. I and others are tired of being in the shadow of Chelsea, and now City, not to mention Arsenal and Utd. It is rumoured that RA wanted to buy us, and since then other people have been rumoured likewise. I don't know if these rumours are true, what I do know is I want ENIC to either spend or quit. I hope this helps explains the financial situation to your goodself
Well said CS, it's soooooo ****ing annoying to be the third 3rd club in London, to be down the pub and even have West ham fans laughing at us. Spend or leave ENIC, please.
to be fair Ghoddle, I don't want us to have a sugar daddy, I just want a Chairman who is not more focused on finance than success. For me they go together, you cannot make money without success and you cannot get success without spending money - I am not advocating we go out and buy a new squad, I just want Levy to stop playing 'Happy Accountants' with OUR club and to do the right thing. Yet again we are going to hope that we get the players we need to compete this season - but thanks to Levy thinking he can squeeze a couple more million out of Real Madrid, we are gonna be sweating profusely (and not through the hot weather we are getting at the moment) and praying that a he does a deal
Yes we need more striker options and hopefully in the next few days at least the Ade saga will be resolved which will be a significant plus. But having said that, I saw enough today to be quite positive for our season. There was a clear plan and of most of the game we were by far the better side. If Simpson had been sent off at that early point in the game I have no doubt that we would have come away with the points. OK we lost, but if there can be a positive defeat then this was it.
Relayer I saw positives today - but there were too many negatives to. We need a playmaker in midfield - Livermore is a decent player but he is will never be the playmaker that we need. We looked devoid of inspiration at times today, despite looking the better side for the first hour. Defoe done okay - but he cannot be the answer if used as a loan striker. However, if we played VDV in behind him then it might be a different story. Benny still gives me mini heart attacks - although we do not need to replace him.
GH10 - don't be ridiculous, we all want our club to be successful, but football success has always come in phases, during the sixties Arsenal were nowhere to be seen. If only the CL had started then. One of our worst periods was pre-Enic, where we also just won one League cup in ten years and finished about 10th in the league on average. They have definitely improved us. Pompey are the prime example of how you can perform above your station at massive risk. I'd have no difficulty if a rich man brought us and injected money, but we have no right to expect owners to spend their own cash, particularly when a lot of the time it has been made available it has been squandered.
Thought you were really unlucky not to get something out of the game tbh. We were nowhere near our best first half and you bossed the game in that period, although we came into is a lot more in the second. A couple of striking acquisitions and you'll be right as rain in my opinion
Ta. I think we'll play worse than that and win, mostly I'm just pleased with the performance though. There aren't many teams that come away with points at St James' Park but the way we played was a big plus for me.
A bit the same as last year though when many times we faded in the second half. A good striker soon or we're going nowhere though. When two players sandwich a forward in the box and he goes down a penalty is always given and I have to say the ref was right. So we lost to a set piece at Newcastle which isn't a bad sign for the future imo.
HI CS - I most definitely do want a rich owner who spends big, so we have a realistic chance of winning the big pots, the Prem and CL.
PS - don't be ridiculous, one Carling Cup in 11.5 years is not acceptable for a club like ours, our worst trophy haul in over 60 years. Even in the much maligned 90s we won two trophies compared to ENIC's one and finished higher in the lge, 3rd, than ENIC have ever managed. I'm furious at them for not addressing the striker situation this summer. I have every right as a fan to want to see our club being successful and not constantly in the shadow of Arsenal and Chelsea. If ENIC don't want to spend their money, fine let them sell up and let's get someone who will. I've been spending money on this club for over 50 years, practically all of us as fans spend money on Spurs. ENIC are happy to take that money and spend it, how about they spend some themselves for a change?
