I'm not even going to try and emulate THFC6061's legendary threads but in the absence of a thread regarding our match I figured something is better than nothing! NEWCASTLE vs TOTTENHAM Kick off: 5:30pm (live on ESPN) Last season's results: Newcastle 2 - 2 Tottenham Tottenham 5 - 0 Newcastle 4 points gained from tough opposition last season - let's see if we can better that this time around COYS
We've actually got a double header taking place on Saturday, with our under 21 side also kicking off their new league campaign at Newcastle. It will be interesteing to see which over age players (we are allowed 3 plus a keeper), will feature in the under 21 side. Difficult to predict teh 1st team starting line-up. Who will the CB partnership be ?? Who will be in CM ?? Lots to look forward to. Bring it on !!
Even though there are so many issues with the squad, new manager, lack of strikers, am looking forward to the season starting as even if we get a slow start, we're Tottenham and there will always be some sort of drama or excitement so bring it on!
Lots to look forward to? Lots to worry about more like! Really disappointed if it's true and AVB is selling Huddlestone. I think the side will be Brad; Walker, Dawson(c), Kaboul, Benny; Sandro, Livermore; Lennon, VDV, Bale; Defoe. Subs; Gomes, Vertonghen, Gallas, Jenas, Sigurdsson, Townsend, Kane.
Don't know about Tommy maybe being sold, but I do know he is struggling with his ankle. Your line up looks ok, but I think it's significant Dawson didn't feature for the past 2 pre-season games, so maybe he'll miss out. Also, I think Gomes is injured so would expect to see Carlo on the bench.
Didn't know that about Gomes. You might be right about Dawson, I hope not and put him in there because I felt he'd be required as captain whilst Parker's out and Vertonghen's not yet proven enough to start alongside Kaboul.
Kaboul & Verts played a lot minutes together in pre season so I would expect them to start with Daws on the bench.
Played for both: Ossie Ardiles (played for Spurs, managed both) Sebastien Bassong Steven Carr Les Ferdinand Ruel Fox Paul Gascoigne David Ginola Chris Hughton (played for Spurs, managed Newcastle) Jermaine Jenas Alan Pardew (played for Spurs, manages Newcastle) Kevin Scott Chris Waddle Jonathan Woodgate
BF; KW YK JV BAE; Sandro JL; GS VDV GB; JD is what I realistically hope/expect I don't want to see Lennon and Defoe in the front 4 - too small. I'd prefer JV as LB, but that ain't happening.
Toon fan here, how good is this Kane lad I've heard about and is he really your second choice striker? I remember hearing a while back about a bright prospect at Spurs, what are the chances of this being his breakthrough season? btw I've predicted 1-0 to us if Cabaye and Tiote are starting, otherwise I can't call it. Our clashes are usually top notch.
For the moment he's our second choice by virtue of being one of our 2 strikers in the first team. Not sure how this game will go for us, we obviously still need a striker and Newcastle is a tough place to go. Like you I'm looking forward to it though.
Will be an interesting game. I think us and NUFC will be fighting for the CL places again come the end of the season. Hard to know what will happen as there are so many unknowns coming into this game
My prediction of line up: Bradley Walks Verts Kaboom Benny Sandro Lennon VDV Siggy Bale Defoe Adventurous. Lots of work for Sandro
Like the line-up for home games, but Jake for Siggy or Lennon for this one I think. Ideally Thudd instead of Jake, but still not fit apparently.
If i was picking the team i'd go with what you are saying. However, from what i know of AVB (which admittedly is not actually _that_ much) he likes his teams to dictate and i'm not sure he'll alter his ideas based on whether we are home or away.
Ghoddle and others probably have the lineup right. I think you have to start Vertonghen and Gylfi on general principles, and Lennon would make sense to sit. I'd definitely start both Livermore and Sandro. If I were a Toon fan I'd be feeling great about this season. Not only was Newcastle the new team challenging for the top four, but the three and four teams both had huge changes and dropped top players.
Yep RW, to me Defoe will play and so I don't want another 'titch' in the front 4. Bale is scoring the occasional header these days and that's great, but Lennon will little to aim at with his crosses so would rather utilise the talents of Siggy. Walker can get forward to put some crosses in, if needed. I've read elsewhere that Hudd, Daws and Luka haven't travelled to Toon.
