Wow, is that a backhanded compliment or what?
Tash I see as a good candidate, and have done for a while in truth, but there's always the worry he can't keep his mania suppressed 24/7 and this place would go to hell with bannings and restrictions dealed out unmercifully to his foes! 
I think he's grown up in the last few years no question, and giving him the role would perhaps be good for him and the forum. It's a bit like in the cricket when KP was elected captain of England... You know it's inevitably going to be a disaster or roaring triumph. While I have faith in Tash, he needs to really show commitment to stepping up to the responsibility. You really up for it Tash? If so, I can't see a problem with giving him the 6-7 weeks as a probation period. Probationary to see if he wants the role, and if the community think he's suited to it.
AB's shoes would be difficult to fill for anybody, so in my opinion it's important whoever is chosen acts maturely, is respected generally on the forum, and that AB approves of the decision. The moderators are part of the advert for our board.
Though we've already found some candidates, I feel it would be appropriate for me to bring-up a couple of people who I think deserve at least a mention in the discussion. JWAG and Freddd are both reasonable, well respected and fierce when it comes to debating, and are worthy of consideration. LTF is well respected and I have been a vocal proponent of having a female among our mod ranks for a while, but I understand that she doesn't want the role, so fair enough. Jimiley is a top chap and injects humour, and GCT's name appeared last time in these discussions and is quite an exceptional young man. There are probably more who deserve a mention, so sorry if I've forgotten anyone!
As a last word, I think it's appropriate I tip an emoticon glass to AB. Sterling years of service, kept the place ticking over with ACS for a long while, and has been a valued contributor for the longest time. It's sad you're considering passing the torch, but thanks a lot for everything however this process turns out, I hope you stick around the place

I'll be a mod if the vote goes my way and people trust me, but I see Gandalf as an equally sexual candidate, but one that can fight off WUMS as well as he fights off Balrogs...
You yourself were a prime candidate Gandalf and would have been ideal for the job if you'd been up for it.
I'm not putting my name forward at this time because I've got some projects I really want to channel most of my effort into for a while. I wouldn't rule out doing it again in the future if the opportunity arose, it really is a pleasure doing the job, especially on a board with such fine posters, but I can't service these good people as they require right now
