We'll have to see. No idea what hand if any he had in their transfers, nor how much of one he'd play here, but his downfall at Roma came via some really bad transfer activity. In 14/15 they spent £60m on six players. Of those, their production has been as follows: - Juan Iturbe (£18.4m per Transfermarkt): very talented but never really made an impact. Loaned to Bournemouth (and failed to do much there, either). - Radja Nainggolan (£11.3m). Has been very good, occasional (okay, frequent) attempts to amputate limbs notwithstanding. - Seydou Doumbia (£10.8m). Barely played. Was loaned back to CSKA Moscow a few months later, then flogged on loan to Newcastle). - Kostas Manolas (£9.8m). Pretty solid CB. - Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (£5.5m). Was just as inconsistent with Roma as Newcastle. Shipped to Lyon after a year. - Antonio Sanabria (£4.7m). Too young to render a verdict. Hasn't featured for Roma yet. Coupled with the sale of several good players and middling intake in the summer of 2015, their talent base was eroded pretty badly, and Garcia didn't seem to be able to make it work. So, the half-full outlook is that Garcia was a very good manager (and he is at least a good manager) who was hamstrung by a board that made poor work of the transfer market, and then blamed him when the results went south. The half-empty outlook is that his replacement did make it work...though 34 points in 19 games (Garcia's tally when fired) is hardly awful, his replacement came in and took 46 points from 19 to finish the year. One thing that seems clear from the various fans/journos commenting on Garcia: the board better make sure that they're signing players that fit Garcia's outlook, or they will not play.
http://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/rudi-garcia-close-to-be-appointed-as-new-sevilla-boss-849602 Garcia was recently linked to Sevilla...pah, how can Seville in Andalucia be compared to the lovely Southampton.
I find it weird that so far no national paper has taken this rumour and run with it....it is almost like they need evidence unless it is bad news for Saints.
I think it strange that the media has not cottoned on to this rumour too........errr is someone having us on? Are we sure Tobes hasn't started this rumour?
No, he's busy saying he'll buy pints for everyone here, before going back to his board and calling us twats to his two other mates.
I'm guessing our Mystery man is PSG's now ex-manager, just because he's not been linked anywhere I've seen: I mean Laurent Blanc is just too good a manager to stay out of work. http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/fourfourtwos-50-best-football-managers-world-2015-no10
Roma's director of football (Walter Sabatini) was responsible for all transfer activity but how much input Garcia has no one really knows. Also describing Manolas as a 'pretty solid cb' is a bit of an understatement.
