Neil had all the potential to be another 'Dean Windass' at the time. Pity he could earn more baking bread and playing for Scarboro then he could playing for Hull City.
He was one of, it not the best amateur player I've ever seen, and played against locally. Another lad who wasn't picked up is Chris Hartley. Think he made it to City juniors and why those two never turned out for their local club at a time when the standard we were playing in wasn't the best, is beyond me.
Agreed mate he was outstanding
I’m sure he played for England amateurs?
Ye Chris Hartley very good player too
Garry bratton was another
He got to city reserves but just couldn’t break into it. I don’t know why he didn’t.
Done well for himself out in Oz I think .
Neil went and played for brid town when the dodgy racehorse owner owned them and was earning a pretty penny there
Chris hartley went there too and Steve Brentano

I’m trying to be positive but I have real doubts about him
“In his three months in charge, he oversaw the relegation of Southampton to the EFL Championship, having won just two games in 17 matches.”

I’ve no idea of the players he had at reading and he appears to have done ok
But more I think of it more I think Alex Neil would have suited us in this situation

Agree. Although I knew he’d go for another wildcard than a safe option, but I think this one is as safe a wildcard as you can get really, other than someone like Marco Silva who has had some decent level of success in another country.

Ken Richardson of Flockton Grey fame? Famously and allegedly when chairman of Doncaster Rovers paid someone to set fire to the main stand for the insurance payout, and the 'arsonist' left his phone behind with Richardson's number the last call on it!
As for young players, do you remember one called Kirk or was it Kerr? played in midfield for the reserves a few times? Saw him play for us against Everton at Boothferry Park one night and they fielded a near full strength team for some reason or another and every one of them applauded the young lad off the field at the end, Kevin Ratcliffe the Everton captain? in particular walked him off the pitch with his arm around him. The poor lad suffered a serious injury soon after and disappeared.

There's no allegedly, he got a four year prison term for it. :emoticon-0138-think

Yep that was him
Quite a character
I do remember now you say it going to that ressies game but can’t remember a Kerr or Kirk! Was he a local lad?
Al rawdah might know?
Also went to the ressies one night at B P when we played Man U and Bryan robson played a comeback game against us.
Steve Brenner was trying to man mark him in midfield but couldn’t get near him and he was only playing at 50%
You see how good they really are at times like that.

I remember the Flockton Grey 'sting' and I'm pretty sure one the the 'Wiles' family from Driffield was involved in some way.

Just listened to the 1904 podcast and the full press conference, I thought all 3 of therm came across really well.
At the end it was asked if we’d try for any Reading players, Dublin said it’s something we’d try for in the next 12 months (or something like that). I’m not really sure what he ment

I thought he was basically confirming the clause by saying it would be something we could look at over 12 months as opposed to the next window. It was a weird way for him to answer the question though.

I took it that this January wasn't possible (as others said earlier) but we could well be back calling after that. It was a bit cryptic, not sure why he couldn't just have said it as it was

So just to clarify, the guy hasn't even managed his first game yet and it's the wrong appointment?

I think it was basically confirming the suggestion we can't move for reading players in January
