We've had some good loans down the years. How many did we convert to a permanent signings that resulted in being a success for us?

Down the years we lost out on Given, Evans, Rose, Ki, Amad and Welbeck.

I'd much prefer the club to purely persist with OUR academy players over developing other clubs players, unless it's a loan with a view to being permanent.

Depends of we have players if the same or similar quality in the academy of or squad.

Of the players you named I think Given, Ki and add Alonso for me are ones that had a successful loan and we had a chance of signing at the time but we balked at the price? Given I was a bairn so might be wrong on that!

All the rest the parent clubs wanted them back and they were all star players that season and better than what we had available in the full team never mind academy! So in each of the cases the player was well worth the loan and developing another teams player.

Support takes many forms, including criticism where warranted. It's not a thought crime to have areas where you believe they can do better.

I have relatives for whom Sunderland haven't done anything right since Clough got injured.
I have no problem with criticism and critique but as I have said many times on here it should be well thought out and backed by a balanced argument and not just put out there without the aforementioned thought and perspective into the situations.
You seem to be constantly looking for a way to criticise and seem reluctant to acknowledge the successes of the club or put thought in to reasons why mistakes have been made or how some of the problems at the club have been inherited.
We seem to have finally started to commercialise the club better bit you wanted to focus on the negatives from last season rather than show some support for the positive steps forward. That is your prerogative but TBH like I have said I choose to support differently and will look to praise the hard work that has been done and hope it continues.

No offence mate but what would cause the club to be in the black for you? Yes last season was a total **** show and no one had denied that - including the owner but off the pitch we've come in leaps and bounds from where we were and the previous season we played some of the best football I've ever seen us play. I'll support the club no matter what, whether I agree with what they do at times it's a different matter but there's no conditions I'll put on my support
Decent transfer window would do it for me. Off the pitch fantastic. Now to put it right on it

Alonso went back to Fiorentina for the manager ( Montella?) to have a look at him. He then had a successful season before Chelsea splashed the cash on him.

The club opted to pay the 10m on Rodwell rather than Ki, but I don't recall Ki being desperate to sign + a proportion of fans thought he was poor and not worth the ££.

I think they wanted 4m for Given and we weren't in the position to spend that on an 18yr old keeper. Quinn was our recorded signing the summer after he left and that was only 1.3m-1.5m going from memory.

Any loans signings should have a fee agreed to enable us to take advantage of the year spent developing them.

We went through an undeniably rancid spell of form. No denying that but it would have taken Dodd getting 2 or 3 points from his 13 games instead of the 9 he did manage.

2/3 points from 13 games extrapolated over a season would, I assume absolutely smash the record for lowest points total in the championship.

We were bad. We were nor historically bad. And we had been very decent up until about half way through the season.

The relegation talk always seemed ridiculous.
I believe if the season was 3 games longer we would have went down

Yes - could be graduation marquee but it looks a bit weird. (Ceremonies are from 8th-12th July)

They do look to be replacing seats here though

It’s the graduation stage and also the stage for scouting for girls.
The missing seats are the ones they take out for the concerts so people can get on the pitch.
