Think that's speculative horseshite to be honest.

It's not necessarily telling of a lack of ambition.

It's more likely to be symptomatic of a failure to put that ambition into practice.

The failure could lie in several places. Some not within the club.

That said, I'm starting to lose patience.

Interesting take for sure and I can see a few fans feeling that way. Wouldn’t go as far as this post personally as I think still is quite an ambitious target and wouldn’t be a surprise to not be able to bring him here. I think it would be more the reasons why we couldn’t get him, which we are unlikely to ever really know.

I think there's an element of truth in "Kyril simply can't afford not to get him". We've all become so convinced it's Still that there will be some people who won't cope if it isn't.

Failing to get him in no way shows a lack of ambition or an inability to run the club. That's just nonsense. In fact, if we're looking at coaches who are also being courted by clubs that have qualified for European competition, its probably a sign that we're overreaching.

Agree with that.

I am starting to question how much Speakman is bringing to the table. Can't help it.

Think seeing that Ben Knapper just go out and get his man has filled me with envy.

Might be overreacting but I'm a bit tired of advocating for patience with him when it's starting to feel like maybe he isn't doing enough.

I need a drink.

At the minute, 100% yes in my opinion. Good club in a very good place at the moment.

However for Still’s ambitions maybe not. Even if he gets them Champions League football, I’m not sure that gets him on the radar of Prem clubs as much as getting us up and making a fist of it after promotion. The scramble for McKenna and Kompany is evidence of that for me.

Norwich’s appointment is less ambitious than Still in my opinion mind. If that’s where we were setting our sights then we’d probably have it done quickly too.

Can’t really say his football is turgid after only coaching hull in his little time, maybe he had to play it like that to get the best out of the players he had and to get them away from the bottom and fighting for a play off spot. I would be ok with him being giving a chance

This is spot on and is something I'm concerned about. Anybody appointed now, especially if British, will be seen as many as simply "not Still" and elicit a similar reaction to what we had with Beale.

Those outside of the club won't know all of the nuance as to why the fans have reacted so badly, they'll just see Sunderland fans up in arms at another head coach appointment. It will just further enhance our reputation as over-demaning / impatient, which I truly believe we are not. But it will hamper us for future appointments / signings as our reputation drops.

Absolutely they are. Just played in the champions league, in the playoff round for the conference league for the upcoming season, the club have a great model of buying and selling and have made over a 100m on sales and then spent over 100m on players within the last 2 seasons.

Norwich's Ben Knapper feels free-er than Speakman, from the outside at least. He was able to go out and get his man,

Has Speakman? Because we keep hearing KLD is the one who wants Still. It suggests a bit of a mess.

Now, I don't necesarilly think Speakman going out and getting his man is a good thing seeing he thought Beale was his man. But if thats the case, he shouldn't be in the job.

Which is something @SourPatch2 has been banging on about for over a month, frankly.

If it’s not to be Still, they can salvage it with an exciting appointment. It’s the wait that’s the key for me. Appoint Rosenior/Heck and it’s evident that they they’ve failed to appoint the man they wanted - as those lads could have been in weeks ago. The wait now needs to be worth it.
