Potentially, or they don’t want to pay the compensation required for a good manager when there’s a chance they could get someone for nothing in the summer.
But if they feel Dodds is an equal or better option to someone they would have to pay for why wouldn't they stick with Dodds?

So let's appoint a stop gap for the stop gap they just sacked. Fantastic planning by SAFC.

I’m not disagreeing with you.. I’m making the point that they wouldn’t only appoint Dodds because he’s the best fit, there could be other reasons ie money, convenience. It’s all hearsay at the minute I think we owe them the benefit of the doubt. If it goes tits up then we can whinge :emoticon-0102-bigsm

It seems there were irreconcilable differences between Mowbray and the board, you can’t plan for that it just happens.

For those saying why did let they have someone lined up, why would they if the relationship just broke down.l?

And for you to say Dodds is a stop gap for a stop gap, that may be but it doesn’t change the fact that the necessity is still there for the post to be covered.

We are where we are and we need to fill this position as quickly and with the least impact as possible for me.

As long as they get along with the players, coaches and Speakman it’s not a bad idea

Replacing Mowbray with Beale reminds me of The Simpsons when Homer quit the nuclear power plant and they replaced him with a chicken called Queenie with no obvious consequences

Agree you don't let the tail wag the dog, but senior players being consulted is very different to senior players having control.

If Dodds wants the job for example, then it would definitely make sense for Speakman to seek the views of the players on how things have been these last couple of weeks. He doesn't have to listen to them, and I think we've all seen Speakman is very much his own man when it comes to decisions, so I don't think he'd make his mind up based on what players are telling him.
I don’t think Speakman in his position would need to seek players advice on how things have been. His finger should be well and truly on the pulse and I’m sure he has.

Too sensible you mate.

I get your point mate but he’s only had 2 decent games as manager (the other 2 were shockers) it’s not really a good sample size for such a massive job how is that comparable to others mentioned who have taken teams from relegation candidates to battling for league titles, won numerous promotions, have average teams battling for European places etc?

It does really if we’re now asking the players on what their opinions are on our head coach search

O'Nien is the club captain and I'd be shocked if he wasn't consulted on most team matters. He's the ear of all these players, young and very young, so will liaise with the management ... that's how all clubs operate and always have.

The ***** coach at Newcastle, who abused loads of young lads, wasn't discovered for years. If any of our players have serious concerns about a manager, bullying/racism/whatever, they'll be able to speak to O'Nien who can speak to the club.

It's perfectly reasonable and logical imo.

There’s tonnes of disagreement on here but we have little tolerance for people throwing hissyfits and acting like impatient children. Especially those that only appear during transfer windows and managerial searches so that they can ask for information and then post it on RTG whilst simultaneously moaning about how bad this place is.

It's not a comparable sample size, but Dodds can't show what he can do without being given a chance.

I'm not saying I'm in favour, but if they think he's the man it's the same as other clubs taking a chance on assistants elsewhere etc. only Dodd's is already here.

It would be a considered risk to give him a shot at it.

They can say how much they rate the current one though
They can but as I said above, Speakman should know that anyhow if he’s running the whole football side. It’s just a nice thing to do, I’m saying him talking to players really means nowt and he will know that the tail won’t be wagging this particular dog
