I think we have 2 weeks personally for the Head Coach. Everyone on holiday now anyway. Any coaches being interviewed will already be researching and getting to know the squad etc.

Obviously I'd much prefer something announced now. And I see why people think its important. I just don't think it's as important as getting the right man.

As long as the new man is in before pre-season then we'll be ok. If Dodds takes "the group" to Benidorm then I'll be really worried

It would and I don't think it's likely BUT this is Sunderland AFC and stuff like that has happened before. What year was it when we had to fly in a load of the u21s as we didn't have a big enough squad for training/matches due to a lack of signings?
 
I don’t know why because I’ve stomped my feet and spat my dummy out loads this season but I feel really calm about the whole manager situation, i don’t think it’ll drag on all summer, do think it might be after the leagues and cup finals all wrap up though

You are probably right mate. What troubles me a bit is the footy calendar between now and pre season. It is busy.

18th May League 1 play off final
19th May Prem season ends
25th May Cup Final
14th June to 14th July Euros
Late July Olympics

We head off the Spain 15th July.

The above list of tournaments will slow down the summer moves in Europe in my opinion. I hope we are getting ahead of it all now, in terms of players incoming. Not sure we can be waiting until post the euros to do the majority of our work, it will be players not integrated by the start of the season again. We need a fast start next season, in my opinion, or it will feel like this downward spiral is continuing. We all know how form can continue from one season to another.

I'm like you, probably more to do with being relieved the season is over. Time to chill and enjoy the summer

Completely agree. Its why I don't think Speakman is going anywhere too soon. Makes no sense for him to go now as this is practically his busiest period.

I do think some fresh eyes on recruitment might be needed. Hopefully the new Head Coach is that man. Not saying we do away with how we work, but the fella who will have to deliver the side needs a voice on targets for me. Hoping the head coach is in this week for this reason.

Need to get this appointment right (obviously). They’ve had months now to filter through and identify their man - so I’d like to think this will be sorted very soon. That’s my expectation.

One thing that I think Speakman has done well is to be very professional in transfer negotiations*, signing new players to sensible contracts and improving the contracts of players already here that are performing. I'd be OK if he continues on that side of things in the short term. Transfer strategy needs to be handled by other people though - with more weight to the new head coach's voice.

* From what a few posters have said about our high reputation now

Could potentially still see an announcement of an agreement in principle similar to Liverpool and slot
