Think Rowett is more about saving them from the drop in next few games. Experienced championship mgr so makes some sense.
Yeah I agree. I'm a fan of Rowett, done a good job everywhere other than Stoke where everyone seems to fail.

It’s a desperate move, but one that’s needed. Venus looks to be very poor tactically so they are struggling massively without Mowbray.

Is Mark Venus staying on and just working with Rowett till end of the season?

Interesting one mate. I have said before I think the first team setup, players through to DoF need a bit of experience somewhere. Mowbray was perfect in that sense, an old head on broad shoulders so to speak. I dont mean we need someone of a certain age, but someone with some solid experience would be my ask.

Young players like ours are learning all the time. Often through mistakes. Someone who can understand that and take the heat. Someone who has navigated winning and losing runs. Someone who can command a touch line and see what the opposition are planning and doing.

Not saying an u19 or u23 coach cant do that, just that they would be on a learning curve in the same way as our players are. So not top of my list for that reason.
Yeah I’m think we need some more experience. It’s possible that a coach could step up like they have elsewhere but there needs to be a spine of experience in the side and I think Speakman and Harvey need another voice

@Bob the Mackem @Iain not sure if you’d know this. When is Speakeasy’s contract up ?
I dont think DoFs or Tech Directors have a contract end date like coaches or players. Mighy be wrong, but I think generally they are employees with no end date, but a long termination clause on both sides and a compensation figure for anyone wanting to buy them out.

I read somewhere that is up in the summer.
That would be very interesting in my opinion. I think he has made too many mistakes personally, and think it might be time for a new voice. That said, inside of football circles I would imagine he is quite highly thought of because of the player sale upside he has overseen. I might think he should move on, it might be out of our hands if he gets a better offer at the end of his contract.

It's a difficult one. He has definitely done some great work on the recruitment side of things, bringing in the likes of Ballard and Clarke, but has tarnished his record with the Head Coach debacle, some questionable player recruitment and showing the door to several of the senior players.

Is it time for a change? I'm not particularly bothered. If he stays, good, but I won't be spitting my dummy out if he goes.

By new voice, I would be happy if there was an additional view of first team affairs, someone with more history in first team football. Speakman had done a lot of good, but as you say in recent times a lot of mistakes

I cannot believe that a person as high up as him in a football club will have a contract with an ending date, speakman hasn’t has a good year but we’re in a far better place with him doing what he has done previous. No one on this board has done everything right in their job and like myself made a few boo boos, he’s human just like the rest of us so should be treated like the rest of us not hounded out. He’ll have plenty of admirers if he were ever to leave us and I think if he did it’ll be our loss.

Although I largely agree and I see a lot of good, decreasingly so at first team level where he has less experience, he also isn’t the only person who could do a good job in that role and it’s important we consider options in case we can get better

I agree in some respects that we should always strive for the best in any role but to be honest we also have to allow people with great potential to develop. The question which TBH non of us can answer is does KS have potential or is he at the limits of his capabilities.
I think he has earned a little bit of time to see if he really has what it takes to take us further (I have stated I think this is a big Summer for him) and to see if he is capable of more.
