In the O & G market yes they did..the project might be 3 years.. sometimes they brought their family, sometimes not..

Thanks, as I thought you're trying to compare apples with oranges ...

... anyone recruited into a high profile oil & gas position would have the commensurate experience.

I keep seeing people trying to compare football with their own employment, it just doesn't compute tbh.

I think rightfully critical at this stage but i think if its an appointment that you like then youll def be less critical

The biggest issue was they waited too long for Still, but that deal was pretty much done, he agreed on everything (was getting everything he wanted) but couldn't sign till 1st of June due to comp that reims would have been due. Lens came in and from what I've been told (from a reliable contact that has nothing to do with sunderland) said is that Still felt Lens gives him the better opportunity to then move to 1 of the big clubs in France or get a top half PL team. Hes an ambitious guy for sure but i was told he was impressed by what we had offered him

The issue is they have acted quickly enough since then imo - it needs to be sorted this week and im quietly confident it will be
I did wonder about Still’s thinking with that, when you see the clamour there was for McKenna and the job Maresca has landed off the back of a season in the Championship (even Kompany to an extent) suddenly this league looks like a cracking stepping stone for head coaches.

If thats how you feel, then thats good enough for me mate.

You are right that if I like the appointment, my frustration will probably fade fast being the fickle git I am. But still think there will be underlying concerns about our footballing operations. Still time to get it right, but put a hell of a lot of pressure on themselves leaving it this long.
Yep they still have a lot to learn, it takes time to build that 'list' of suitable candidates and i think losing james young has had a massive impact on it

Its the same with player recruitment, it takes yrs to build a really solid scouting team. I've been at my club for 3 yrs and im just now building a true understanding of what is needed to improve our team

Huge summer ahead so they just need to get their manager in now

May be completely misguided mate but my understanding was James Young had built the systems we now use, so the feeling internally was that it wouldn’t impact things much (if at all). Whether that is how it’s panned out is another matter, mind.

All I am doing Smug is looking at the process..

The way Topcat described the model for recruitment at the top end of business was a broad statement for general recruitment...which is not the case when recruiting for certain positions.. I know, I have been involved. Each business has its own little quirks..I'm sure football does as well...but the process is pretty similar...not saying exact, but similar... again, all I am saying the way they appear to have dealt with this is greatly flawed. Thats assuming the Will Still story was true, and if its not what's the excuse for the delay. We all want the same thing, but you have to admit this process has not been dealt with professionally. The goodwill the owner has had (correctly in my opinion) has been draining away with this. He needs this person to hit the ground running for sure.

Fair enough, hopefully thats the case - just seems like our recruitment hasnt been the same since he left and last 2 manager searches havent been great to this point

I know, but as top businessmen, like Short have found ...

... football doesn't follow that process.

If it did it wouldn't be the game we all love.

So...in your opinion, what is the process

None of us know, including yourself, that's the point.

We don't have a clue if Cifuentes was granted permission to speak to us, we don't know if Cooper is free of his contractual obligations with Forest, we don't know if Still asked for wages way above what a Championship club could possibly offer.

Wages and contracts, in the oil & gas industry follow a process ...

... football is like no other business outside of show business.

2 names have been mentioned quite a few times on here and the 3rd was a new name to me but the person did say it was unlikely to be them

All 3 i like the sound of and would be happy with - 2 id be really excited by

Im hoping we hear in the next 24/48 hrs
I wouldn't ask you to name any of the 3 names but is there any names you can categorically rule out? Apart from the ones that have already distanced themselves. I'm thinking the likes of Challinor, Robinson, Heckinbottom etc, can they be ruled out?

Yes? 2 were discredited couple of weeks ago.
Heckingbottom is waiting for a PL club

Ok.. fair enough

if i wanted to slag the club off every chance i got then these past few weeks would have given me more than enough ammo...IF all the stories were/are correct, i read through day after day and see plenty who are using this 120 day yardstick to beat the club but with no real evidence except that MB was sacked then, i also see plenty of posts from lads who are (rightly) getting very anxious at the minute but i feel most of them will settle once a coach is announced and then i see others from lads who have no more evidence than anyone else so prefer to give the club the benefit of the doubt.

i am quite happy to leave it to the club to sort it because nothing i say or do will influence any decision they make, this does not make me a 'happy clapper' as i sure as hell could be much happier about it but it is what it is..so we may as well sit back and keep our blood pressure at the right level.

;)
