There’s not a chance Speakman has gone out for a meal with Lampard at Romano’s before an announcement has been made
For the reasons you mention he's come out unhurt, hence his period of allowing things to settle. I think he'll be hoping Man Utd are tempted but he'll more likely end up at somewhere like West Ham or Ipswich. I doubt he'll ever manage a top club tbh ... ... unless it's us
No chance in hell it’s Lampard … not even going to entertain the idea. I think if he ‘seen him’ so would many others.
Actually get where your coming from, would also be a part of me thinking he'd feel Sunderland was too low for him after Chelsea and Everton
I said I wouldn't be against Lampard weeks ago. We're at a point where we're pissed off at unknowns not getting the job these days, by that I mean not the run of the mill same old same old managers.
It would take too long to spell out all the reasons ... ... but mainly because he looks down on any player he considers beneath his own ability.
If Lampard makes it as a coach I will eat everyones hat. Sorry like, but he is not remotely what we need. I want to reply re brit coaches going overseas. One for tomorrow when I have some time. There are a lot doing it though and plenty have done it. There are a lot of young coaches from these shores forging their way in european lower leagues, similar to Still. Some have even had the privilege of working with me (probably why they are persona non grata here ). More tomorrow but it is a good experience curve. Ultimately though all coaches want to be in the prem, or half a dozen teams in Italy / Spain. It it is wrong, but that seems to be reality. Money talks maybe. So bottom line the number of brits in the prem, relative to other nationalities, perhaps shows our coaches up as among the elite.
There’s also no way he’s in Romanos and noones took a pic, who was the young striker we were linked with a few januarys ago? He was photographed in there and no one even knew who he was
To be fair, if someone had told me Alex Neil would be getting on a train in Durham kitted out in our training gear before an announcement had been made I’d have told you to **** off…so who knows what’s true these days
Fair enough, I can understand that point of view. Keane was similar, I just think Frank would give us the wow factor again. We have some cracking young players who will have grown up watching him, he will have learnt a lot from his last 2 jobs. I reckon he could be a good fit, he will have some great connections in the game as well. Mind you I don’t think we have a chance of him coming up here
