Sorry for being late, but Elliot was a bit tongue in cheek, and I have been cooling off. In all honesty Rog. I think under our current circumstances we are better off sticking with the devil we know, at least until Xmas. But I do not think we should give this charlatan any more rope. We should however leave it to LKD and his advisers as to when he should go. I am all in favour of the long view as presented by Speakman and building from our U23 team,( we should have pursued this yers ago imo.) even if it does take longer it is the safest option. Those who disagree vehemently with the current set up, should in my opinion vote with their feet, as I and tens of thousands of other Sunderland supporters have done over the years, but its as we all know a life sentence.

Genuine question: what makes you call him a charlatan? He's been around the game his whole life and has spent time with some people who are considered to have been very influential. Is it because he didn't bring the younger players through soon enough (which we've obviously discussed before, so we don't need to get into that one)? Is it that you don't like the terminology he uses (again, we've discussed this one before and I've heard plenty of other people using the terms he uses)? Or is it something else? spot on...plenty of thinking going on but not too many throwing any names into the hat, looking more at support for LJ and sorting the problems before getting too worked up.
fact is, if LJ can work out what is wrong we know we have a squad that can win games well, i think the main worry for fans is the 'streaky' nickname and right now i have to say it is looking well deserved.

Then came the Charlton defeat. Then we thought we'd be right at it the next game only to be thumped at Rotherham.

Not changing the defence AT ALL after leaking all those goals is terrible management imo.

In answer to your question I think he is a quack , its just an opinion , not based on any science, just a gut instinct. I may be wrong you may be right (Johnny Rotten). Time will tell, but as in politics its often difficult to see the wood for the trees.

But seriously you are absolutely right about the set up, its vital we maintain it, the only way we differ really imo., is in the degree of trust we have in our current coach. I have no pretentions to claim as much knowledge of the game as yourself and Fell display but enjoy reading your posts, they are an education.

I think that is very harsh marra. As intelligent fans we have to recognise that any progression is never linnear. I think we've seen enough so far from the ownership,the management,the coaches and the players to know we have ,at long last, rejected the mistakes of the past and are on a turning circle,heading up,but we're learning along the way,there will be setbacks,and it's not going to be a straight line to reach our objectives.
Let's cut some slack and see where we are after the Plymouth match. In my opinion, that will be the time to decide if we need coaching changes.

In my opinion, I think the cups have hindered the league progress. With Johnson, chopping and changing personnel, not just one or two but half the side at least. I can understand the reasoning but I think that the team had just started to learn each other's games and then they were either not named in the squad, sitting on the bench or playing with new team mates. If you're good enough this shouldn't matter but we're talking about young players starting out and league 1/Chanpionship type players and I seriously think its had an effect

thing is, none of us need to be overly intelligent as we can all see the results and realise summit is wrong (yup, pointing out the painstakingly obvious again) and what we need now is to see the coach changing it back round...he could speak like a politician or try to baffle us with 'techy-speak' or droll on like the most red of all rednecks but in the end, results will show if he has learned/changed things/improved overall play/etc.
like yourself i am no expert in football tactics and the rest of the bollox that goes with it these days so i do tend to worry a wee bit when something seems glaringly obvious to me and many others, yet we see no difference on the pitch each week.

Mate,reading your posts since I've been on this Board convinces me you're one of our intelligent fans.....and I never meant to suggest otherwise....if I've given you that impression,I'm very sorry.
However, I don't agree with your assessment of our head coach's abilities,on the touchline or elsewhere,for the moment. I want to give him more time,if I'm wrong,I'll happily accept your views.

Doyle needs to be taken out of the line of fire for a rest and for his own good as he's just a kid. Alves should be given a chance.
Kids will get you so far but when the going gets tough they don't know how to cope.
Having said that our experienced players have let them down.

FellTop is the one with the real knowledge. I'd hate to think I came across as thinking I know more than anyone else. I don't, I'm just overly obsessive and read as much as I can about the game and like to share that. I've been lucky enough to get myself into a position where I get to hang out with the coaching staff at a semi-pro club so, admittedly, I parrot a lot of what I pick up from them.Cool ! We were looking like a real quality side and players like Flanagan, Winchester, etc showing huge improvement.
Last season Johnson was criticised for changing the side too much, now it's not enough.
Of course I'm gutted at the results and want things to change ...
... I'm just not sure some of the people mentioned are capable of changing it quicker than Johnson.
