Didn't realise that happened, what stand was that?
The Chapel reacted fine where I was, I think there was a collective! but he set it up brilliantly and we could see he was disappointed himself
... but then we don't have any passion in the Chapel do we![]()
He looks a threat wherever he plays, frankly. Yesterday was just one of those days when it looked like no one was ever going to score - until Charlie showed everyone how to stay composed in front of goal.
Long, Redmond and Tadic behind Austin sounds good. But there's loads of potentially lethal combinations of those four plus J-Rod, and we haven't even seen Bouffal yet.

The northam starting singing for Austin![]()
If we miss an open goal from 6 yards, that's bad luck. If we hoof it over from 25 yards, then that's a complete waste. I wouldn't worry too much about the "finishing" ability of Austin/Redmond/Long, just whether they are getting the right chances in the right part of the pitch. As long as they are, some of them will go in.
Any anxiety to the start of this season was understandable.
First you lose arguably your best manager since McMenemy. Secondly, you then lose a few key players [a couple to your immediate rivals], all acknowledged to be very good indeed at what they do. Granted, you get excellent recompense for them. Then, you get in a relatively unknown manager to most of Saints supporters, backed up by a coach who came from the disaster that was Aston Villa last season. For the outgoing players you recruit relative unknowns [again to most ordinary Saints supporters], with perhaps the exception being Redmond, and you don't fill all the perceived gaps in the squad either. Then, instead of competing in one league competition, you are well and truly in two, with a perceived slightly weaker squad [until proven], with that new manager and assistant. Then Saints lose or don't win their first games largely because they can't score freely enough. One tends to forget the quality of the opposition during these times.
In the Premier League, you don't get time to play around. The first game of the season is every bit as important as the last one, so the longer a club takes to get up and running again, after yet again being disrupted over a close season, just makes it harder and can be a cause of anxiety [can we do this yet again.?]. Because these days, expectations are very high and will get higher still.

This is going to turn out to be the new 'one S in Clasie' thing isn't it?
One 'F' in Boufal (actually, that could be his song).

.
But Long's inability to finish is a problem. Yes, he does enough other things well that he is still a decent player. But on a top side, he's a backup. I realize we are not in a position to sign Zlatan Ibrahmovic, but we should have brought some young talent in to challenge for his place.
This is a laughably superior comment. Expecting to win against one of the worst teams in the league is now a sense of entitlement? At home? Well, best not hope for anything more than the halcyon glory of the odd draw for the rest of the season. And it's coupled with a sense of entitlement that I'm not sure was there before.

The most ludicrous thing I have seen typed on this board.
Touche. I will take my sense of entitlement elsewhere.Ironically, you've just outdone it.

Sense of entitlement? Really! I suppose we should all keep the 90s mindset that staying up is the best we can hope for. Sense of entitlement? The most ludicrous thing I have seen typed on this board.
For me, the line gets crossed when expectation turns into demand. "Expectation" to me means the odds of something happening are above 50%. But it's not a guarantee. I accept that things don't always go according to expectations, and sometimes it is just bad luck.
A top PL side probably beats a relegation side at home 6 or 7 times out of 10. Which means they will sometimes draw and even sometimes lose.
Same with scoring chances. If it gets to the point that we no longer expect Redmond to convert goals where he should have an 90% chance of scoring, then would be a big problem. But asking him to convert 100% is illogical. He is going to miss 1 out every 10 so-called "sitters." **** happens.
