Just to move the debate on, premature I know because we still have a manager but.

If Bruce goes who do we want?

I wanted the good British manager when Bruce came, get it, tried it and not working, that why MON, Hughes, Curbs are not for me.

Lets go for the foreign manager, someone who can attract better players, get us playing better attractive football.

There are a few about, we wont attract a Mureno I know but there must be good managers we could attract.

Didn't I see somewhere that Beardsley was at the match yesterday? When I read it, knowing our predicament, I got a shiver down me back.

Really hope we aren't now trawling for assitant managers, etc.. as that would signal there's no money available. On the other hand I have been known to be too paranoid in the past. Hope I'm wrong.

100% against a foreign manager from leagues abroad. However, a foreign manager that is already here and working is different. We need someone who has bought into the English mentality and there is one fairly new manager who has tasted victory against us many times as a player and this season as a manager. Gus Poyet?

However, its the tried and tested approach for me every time. If the world could be what we wished for, it would be David Moyes all day for me but he ain't coming, so its fantasy thinking only. Realistically there are four I would be looking at and all are either available immediately or for a little compensation.

1st choice - O Neill
2nd choice - Hughes
3rd Choice - Poyet (only one that would cost us money but would be an exciting proposition)
4th choice - Curbishley


Any of these would refresh the club and get more out of the squad we have currently. O Neill is the stand out candidate IMO and the man I wanted pre Keane. Unfortunately he didn't want to drop down the divisions again having served his time there for many years (who can blame a man for not wanting to take a backward step in his career) and with Villa, he showed why. Successive top 6 finishes and only broken promises form Randy Lerner (he promised O Neill money then went back on his word) meant he walked away.

He has operated with no money at some clubs and limited budgets at others. At Villa he had the biggest budget of his career and took Villa from the middle of the league to within touching distance of the Champions League. The season before he left Villa, they finished 6th. The season after he left the same players nearly got relegated. Thats why I rate him so highly. He has the 'Cloughie' touch of getting the best out of players that others cant. Not necessarily the top players but they always perform for him. At Leicester, he won trophies with an ordinary team and no money to spend.

Please Niall and Ellis, get in the phone today and get him in for next weeks game v Stoke. He would kick start our season for sure.

Who could we attract though, if there is no money, there is no money, and I dont believe there is only no money because we have Bruce, I think we just havnt got any, Short has, but the club itself hasnt.

We only make £13 million a year on Gate and Matchday revenue, Newcastle make £21 million (and that was when they were in the Championship by the looks of it), Man U £100 million.

The Club is 66 million in Debt, which most we owe Short I believe, so a lot is interest free debt, but we still pay £2 million a year interest on some of the debt, that is like having 1 player on £40,000 a week.

But i think thats part of the problem we just cant afford (in monetary terms) to sack Bruce.

Then we are truly ****ed mate. Make no mistake about it, Bruce will relegate us this season. I have seen this scenario too many times not to recognise the symptoms. The team look lost; the players bemused and uncertain and the manager is a lost soul on the touchline, desperately seeking divine intervention and inanely rambling on about how on another day we may have got something out of a game we didn't have a meaningful shot on target until the latter stages of the game.

Bruce has lost the plot and so has his team. Keep him and we will be a championship club next season. Bite the bullet and sack him (whatever the cost) and we may well still have a half decent season. O Neill has worked without money previously at clubs and would be able to do so again. We may not have the money to sack Bruce but our financial situation would go critical if we were relegated and thats a price we absolutely cannot afford to pay, as the fans would desert the club droves this time.

I honestly believe that with the terible reputation that our supporters have within football for turning against our team/club when things go wrong (and if you listen to national radio stations you would know this to be true), that many of the top managers will not come here. That is one of the reasons why I feel that supporting Bruce and the team is so important at this time.

The press down here has long documented his frustration at the lack of funds available at Goodison,but he is a man of loyalty and principal and will not walk out of EFC.Besides its long been mooted that he will be Sir Alex's eventual successor. But Mate I do agree with you, he would be a great manager and the stuff hes done on a limited buget has been nothing short of amazing

I don't think he'd come either, but we HAVE to try, as he is by far and away the best manager after Ferguson.

I also think he's a shoe-in for the United job.

Thing is though, imagine what he could do with a few quid and the existing squad, he's a magnificent manager.

Yes I recall him saying he supported Sunderland in the Hurley era.

I don't think Bruce will be sacked. Quinn has always preached continuity.
We were in a worse position with Keane and there was no talk of sacking him.
However, like Keane, Bruce may 'walk' ... but it's still early days yet...

As we have seen over the last two seasons, any new manager would have to generate his own funds..
That's not really all down to Quinn, as we don't have a big enough turnover. Quinn is safeguarding the club from financial meltdown during a time of unsustainable sky high wages...

I'd swap the utter ****e I have watched for the past 36 years for what Leicester had under him BB. 2 cup wins and 2 seasons in Europe is more than Ive ever had. Also he took Celtic to the UEFA Cup final that really a ****e managers actions? We have had 2 games in Europe in the last 40 years so we can hardly shout about owt can we? He had 3 consecutive top 6 finishes with Villa and they were nearly relegated after he left, proof if it were needed that he has the ability to motivate and build teams.

Who cares if the football isn't Barcelona, its hardly been friggin Don caster Rovers for the last 36 years Ive been watching the lads, its results and trophies I want to see before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Moyes is a fantastic manager. He wont be coming here if we offered him twice his current salary as he is destined for far bigger and better things and Everton are a bigger club than we are anyway so whats the attraction for him? One club with no money for another club with no money? O Neill can and has worked tight budgets but more to the point, MON is not working currently and would be attracted. Moyes wants a top 4 club and maybe Tottenham will be looking next summer when Arry gets the England job.

Be realistic. O Neill fits our profile and if he replicates a fraction of the Leicester, Celtic and Villa achievements, we would all love him.
