*facepalm* Where did I say, or imply, that football was invented three years ago? First of all, everyone knows it was invented twenty years ago. Secondly, Spurs have had two top four finishes in three seasons, which I would say at the expense of Liverpool - if they weren't finishing 7th, 6th and 8th, which goes back to what I was saying about it not being "three bad seasons" but an increasing number of teams having better ones. That can;t be put down to a fluke, like when Leeds pipped Liverpool to the CL (by spending money they didn't have, which worked out so well for them), but more teams being consistent. Arsenal lost Fabregas and Nasri last summer, but remained in the top four. Spurs have spent the last four transfer windows clawing back lost transfer revenue, but finished top four two out of three. Man Utd have been run on a relative shoestring compared to previous years due to Glazer asset-stripping, and not only remained in the top four but won titles. If we're going to talk about airbrushing, why not mention those fact as well? Plenty of teams have had similar things happen to them, but haven't been overtaken by an increasing number of teams. Manchester United are an even better supported club, yet their old boys aren't always on call to discuss any and every event about the club for the TV, radio and newspapers. It's not like Liverpool are the only club in England with a large support base, either - there's a good half dozen with a worldwide reach, plus several more with a large national fanbase.
I'm sure you've all seen the headlines, this morning? I despair, I truly do. How are we to help the Mousers deliver themselves from their delusions if Roy Rodgers is going to fill their heads with this kind of nonsense?
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool can still attract world-class players to Anfield. "This football club and its history will always attract top players. There is a real mystique and feel about playing for Liverpool," he said. (Source: The Liverpool Echo)
Don't let facts get in the way of your drivel. The only comparison made between Suarez and Messi is that they both play the false 9 role.
Sure, pal. And the only comparison between me and Jesus is that we both have long hair and a beard, but I wouldn't dream about mentioning my name in the same breath as his.
He did also call him world class. What Rodgers actually said wasn't that bad, but it was very naive. If you make a comparison like that, then you should know how the press are going to run with it. Might not be a great idea to continually big him up either, as it may encourage other teams to come in for him. He's the only one scoring for you and he's not Champions League tied. A January move could be devastating.
Top players... like Joe Allen and... erm... that fella from Holland, and... oh, Borini! All dead certs for 'next year's' Ballon d'Or
I think this is a real problem for Rodgers and was an issue suffered by AVB at Chelsea last season. When you take over a club of that stature every comment you make will be constantly analysed and, where the papers fancy doing it, thrown back in your face for ridicule purposes. At previous clubs he really wasn't in the spotlight that much so I am not sure he's necessarily used to it yet - must be a massive culture shock. As you say, there's nothing wrong about calling Suarez world class but you can see the headlines a mile off. Better to have just stiuuck to the "he's unplayable right now" line.
I really wouldn't say Suarez is a world class player - just like 90% of the other players referred to as "world class" as the term becomes ever more meaningless. When he wants to play, rather than dive and rile up opposing players or fans or managers, he can be very good - but apparently being a very good player isn't enough these days, they all have to be compared to Messi, Xavi et al, which pretty much tells you they aren't world class players as they aren't being judged on their own merits like Messi, Xavi et al are. You'd think Rodgers would know better, though - he's been with Chelsea to get a certain amount of insider knowledge on the culture differences, plus he isn't a complete outsider to the English media (sorry, game...) so he should know you give journalists as little rope as possible (unless your name is alex Ferguson, who has a free pass to say as much drivel as he likes)
I see you're now taking the Messi comment out of context. I hope you're deliberately misinterpreting it... the alternative would be frightening.
In old money I'd agree that he isn't world class - that's in no way a dig at him but like you i think it's used far too easily. However, when you compare him to the scores of others who are given that label it's probably not unreasonable. I don't think Rodgers is very savvy to be honest. When he was with us he said he would not be leaving having been linked to reading. 2 days later he was unveiled as their new manager. He also went public to say he would not be taking the Liverpool job. He can, of course do what he likes but it's not going to help your reputation - i just don't think he always considers the consequences of wha he says. For the record, if any Liverpool fan jumps on that comment and accuses me of harbouring a grudge I wouldn't waste your time - you'd be spot on!
Suarez is world class because he would get into every team in the top leagues across Europe and anyone who disagrees with that is basically clueless about football. There is not one other player in the Prem who could of scored that goal yesterday and to say I'm enjoying the jealousy and envy and bitterness from rival fans is an under-statement!
Of course he is purposefully misinterpreting it! he is a top class rectum who on this forum everyday proves how prejudiced towards his own team and against all others by talking his utter nonsensical drivel which is lapped up by his acolytes here, not because they think he is making good ponits and a great contribution, but because their just as bitter and prejudiced as him that most other fans don't think Spurs are as good a team as they like to think they are at the moment. Rev I don't understand why you dont put HIAG on ignore like every other Liverpool fan on here. Its not as if he has anything of note to say about anything. You miss nothing at all except the inane ramblings of someone who knows nothing about footy and is quite possibly mentally deranged.
What a load of rubbish, We are still the 4th biggest team in the country. Lost ground to you, Everton and Newcastle? That is brilliant. When did you last play in a CL final again? When did you last win it? When did you last win the FA Cup? How may times you even been in the CL? You not even the biggest club in London an the fact you would consider your tiny club in the same bracket as one of the biggest clubs in Europe offends me as a person. Sahin wouldn't even consider you, nor Affelay ffs! Players still have a tough choice choosing between us, you and Arsenal and we've been **** for 3 years!
He has absolutely no intention of moving from Liverpool thats why he signed a new deal coz he was worried that fans were scared he was going to leave for obvious reasons. There hasn't even been any speculation over him as it is so obvious he couldnt be happier where he is. He'll be here till the end of his contract without a doubt, at least.
I take it Toela's just posting this stuff to try and portray Liverpool fans badly, isn't he? These can't be genuine opinions, can they?
Well siad. You've completely beat him there mate. he has no come back to this because its the truth. Even if (when I think) in a few years we start finishing above Spurs again every season (which we have done besides the a couple of seasons recently since I can ever remember) he'l still be wumming and coming up with nonsensical reasons hpw were 'deluded' and how Spurs fans aren't and how somehow, despite us being superior in everwa y by then, Spurs are still somehow better because since he's been alive he's never expected Spurs to win the league.
