HIAG, if you actually read the replies to the thread you mention above, you'll see that the vast majority if us realise we have very little, if no chance of fourth.
But of course that doesn't suit your WUM agenda, does it?

Depends what you mean by stagnate. In the eight year period you mention we have won The CL, European Super cup, The FA cup, The League Cup, and the Charity Shield (shared). Not bad for a club which in your opinion, over that period, are worse than a club which is stagnating.

  4. Sorry, but that is not how I (or the vast majority of normal fans) read that thread.

Yes, there is a nod towards the usual "oh, but, of course, we might not get 4th" bull5hit, but the underlying tone of all comments is that you can still get 4th. It's encapsulated in the very title of that thread ("Only whisper it..."). The reason why you have been implored by the OP to "only whisper it" is because you know only too well that you will have the piss ripped out of you by every single normal fan who knows that you don't stand a chance of finishing in the top 7, let alone the top 4. Indeed, you ought to be counting yourselves lucky if you can finish in the top half of the table, this season.

The idea of a top 4 finish is utterly laughable, whether you "whisper" it or not.

There is no wumming, here; only good honest, objective and unbiased comment.

Part of your delusion expresses itself in the view that any opinion that is contrary to your own must be nothing more than wumming. Until such time as you Mousers are able to honestly declare that 'Pool is now a spent force in English (let alone European) football, I fear that there is little hope of you being released from your delusions. Until the day when I hear Robbie "draw me a line of coke" Fowler tell an interviewer "Liverpool deserves to be mid-table because we are now a mid-table club," I hold out little hope that your delusion will dissipate in the short term. Indeed, I suspect that it is going to take 5 or 6 more seasons of mid-table obscurity, and perhaps even a relegation out of the top-flight, to shake you of your delusion and arrogance (as it did with the Toon fans).

  5. I had to chuckle when I read this, on the BBC Football web page:-

Daniel, Liverpool, via text: "Here's a cheeky little fact for you. Raheem Sterling wasn't even born the last time Newcastle beat Liverpool at Anfield. How old does that make you feel, Phil?"

    <laugh>
After today, it could well be a "cheeky little fact" that Raheem Sterling will have played his part in 'Pool's first loss to the Toon at Klanfield, since he was born.

That'll be one for him to stick in his scrapbook <ok>

    What a crock that comment is, last league title 1989, trophy wins in 92, 95, 01, 03, 05, 06, 12(2 6yr gaps).

Of those won includes a treble of cups in one season and the Champions League and a further appearance in another CL final.

Our finishing League positions by season since the start of the prem 6,8,4,3,4,3,7,4,3,2,5,4,5,3,3,4,2,7,6,8

    As opposed to Spurs 8,15,7,8,10,14,11,10,14,9,5,5,11,8,4,5,4

Last 3 seasons we've been ****e end of.

Still wouldn't be as bad as losing at home to Wigan though, and if we do get beaten, I bet you won't hear any booing of the team or manager.:emoticon-0109-kiss:

So funny I had to post it twice. Same amount of times they've been in top four.

That is the only stat you listed that is relevant. Titles won since 1989: 0

That lost of stats doesn't mention that, since 1989, three dominant powers have surpassed Liverpool in the Premier League - Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea (Man City could become a fourth, but not yet) or that Liverpool have failed to stay ahead of the chasing pack and have not so much lost ground to Spurs, Everton or Newcastle, but fallen behind them.

More like that's the only part of the response you didn't ignore as it fits your viewpoint.

Funny, in the last three years we've been far more relevant than your lot.

The mantra I keep reading (other than "wah wah, editing to suit your viewpoint" at constant intervals) is variations on "we've had three bad seasons", which shows a certain arrogance - it implies you believe that it had nothing to do with an increasing number of teams having better seasons than Liverpool.

There's a difference between season the minimal expectations are met and a bad season. For example, we endured a lot of drudgery during the tail end of the Sugar era, but only one or two of them were "bad" seasons - one because of a catastrophic injury list, and one because of an inept managerial appointment based on the foolish belief that Arsene Wenger was just some bloke from the J-League so hiring some bloke from Switzerland might work just as well.

The minimal expectations for a Liverpool season is a Top 4 finish, and that hasn't been met three times in a row. Yet the only time that can be blamed on a "bad" season is when Benitez guided you to seventh, because the expectation was to continue a run of Top 4 finishes and instead they fell way short of that. Last season, in comparison, wasn't a bad season. Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle all had better seasons - it was a bad season for Chelsea, but they turned it around (much to the chagrin of every other football fan in Europe)

A lot of Liverpool's prominence these days has nothing to do with what happens on the pitch, but a lot to do with the sheer number of Liverpool Old Boys with jobs as commentators, pundits and columnists across the media, so whenever anything good or bad (because indifferent doesn't exist in the world of the Premier League) happens, it gets magnified as they all tend to have an opinion of it. The number of Arsenal Old Boys starting to get into the same sphere has seen a similar thing start to happen with Arsenal.

It might also be because we're one of the best supported teams in the world, still, and people listen/watch to hear about such teams.

Also, last season was a bad season - we collapsed after January and had continual goal scoring issues. Our finish wasn't reflective of our performances in many games. That makes it a bad season for me.

I'm not sure many Liverpool fans have thought that since maybe 2010.

  17. I see that 'Pool managed to sneak a draw. They did far better than I thought they would, to be honest.

I note that Roy Rodgers is praising his players, despite the fact that Suarez (apart from his goal) couldn't hit a barn door at 5 paces. They are now a mere 2 points off 17th place, just above the drop-zone.

No doubt, the Mousers will tell us that 4th is still on for them, and that Rodgers remains their best manager since Bob Paisley.

Just because the last 3 seasons have been good for Spurs doesn't mean football was invented 3 years ago, you lads wear your recent Champions League qualification like a badge of honour which is fair enough but only when you actually win it or reach a final will you have bragging rights.

I see you managed to give excuses as to why Spurs were crap for so long(Sugar etc)but you airbrushed our problems over the last 3 seasons out, 4 managers, club almost going bankrupt, influential players leaving etc, but whichever way you dress it up your club is trying to emulate the success that our club has enjoyed and flattering as that may be you lads on here should embrace it instead of abuse it.

As I keep pointing out mate, if it doesn't meet their viewpoint, agenda, wumming mission etc, it just gets conveniently ignored. Never let the truth get in the way of a good old 'deluded' wind up eh?:bandit:
