Why would you play Fletcher above Altidore when the team scores more with Altidore in the team?
Fletcher is pants, after his 6 goal start done f**k all. Championship slow ****e. We are better than his type now, go on strike, go on spit on cabbies, go on an F**K OFF !
We play better as a team when Jozy plays. It's felt like we've only had ten men on the pitch when Fletch has led the line. If it's an op he needs get him in for it I say. Jozy is clearly the better option of the two at the moment.
Its amazing what signing a striker does for the performances of the other strikers.
That was Jozy's best performance of his entire career and he had the whole skunk back 4 ****ting bricks all afternoon. NONE of them could cope with his movement, pace, power and touch. They were having to triple up on him all day and that left massive holes all over their defence. His little flick for Colback and then Johnsons goal was simply outstanding. Our midfield really buzzed today with creativity and sparkle in abundance and Bridcutt, on his debut, looked like he had been there for years. Borini and Johnson tormented and teased and the back 4 were like a lump of granite. Think we have one of the best defences outside the top 4 IMO. Vito had bugger all to do but when called upon for that save was classy.
1st special mention goes to Colback. What a great performance and capped with a goal. Well played lad and 10/10.
My 2nd special mention though goes to the manager. He has created something beautiful out of something very ugly and we won today without Cattermole, Fletcher or the need to bring on our new striker. The style and tactics are steadily improving to a point that I go into games now looking for points in them all. The confidence and spirit is so evident and the way we comprehensively played them off the pitch today (not at one point did I feel we would lose the game) is a joy.
So, overall man of the match .....................................................I give jointly to Colback and Jozy.

Honestly - Fletcher puts in a lazy shift compared to jozy. I know he is injured, but the way the team is setup now we need a player up front that puts a shift in. Its just a shame jozy cant locate the net!
At the moment, JA is the only choice up front

Altidore was great apart from scoring, caused their middle 2 no end of trouble. As for the rest I think maybe Colback just tops but we were outstanding all over the park
Let me rack my brain a minute here mate ????? maybe that's cos Feltcher is injured and hasn't started many games?
I might be wrong like but when I went to school we learned about averages and **** like that and to me the more you play the more likely you are to either score, or create something. It's very hard to do that from the treatment table. In fact I don't recall anyone scoring from the bench or the treatment room.
If you're struggling to understand this logic just drop me a line and i'll try once again to simplify it for you.
I'll admit, i'm not Jozy's biggest fan - a striker should be about scoring goals, which is something he doesn't do. HOWEVER! What i saw today from him was class. Apart from 3 instances (his 1v1 with Krul, his 'shot' at goal which was going wide and fortunately fell to Colback i think who just put it wide of the post, and when he had another shot straight at Krul), he was very good. His backheel was class to set Colback on his way for the 2nd goal, and none of the NUFC defenders could move him. He just stood his ground and brought the midfield into the attack. I think there is a reason our midfield is getting so many goals now, and that's because Jozy is holding the ball up so well.
I would love to see him get some goals, and my heart was in my mouth with that 1v1 with Krul. I hope he does get goals, as I want him to do well with us. My judgement is still out on him, but he impressed me yesterday... hopefully he will be baking some humble pie for me to choke on.

Me too mate, no one wants to see any Sunderland player fail, i want them all to succeed. My argument was that i think Fletcher is a better goal scorer, not how bad Jozy is and i agree and have said so on other threads, he was brilliant yesterday. If he can continue playing like that every game then i don't see Fletcher getting a sniff to be honest. He should be turning those performances in every game, not just in the derby as should they all.
It's extraordinary isn't it how just 1 performance can change an opinion of a player. Jozy's taken some stick on here, from me included, but some of his work yesterday was fantastic.
As Hairyhaggis says, a striker is supposed to score. But his play can open open up the field for others to score and Jozy's done that many times now.
Just like many England managers picked low-scoring Heskey because of his teamwork and forward play, Jozy is doing the same for us.
Altidore gets my vote ............. couldn't have been blamed for hiding but showed a lot of courage.

I'm not worried that Jozy not scoring atm he's regularly putting lots of work and effort in for the team, his size and stature certainly disrupts defenders, the match commentator yesterday described him as a 'honest player' which I thought was an apt description, his goals will come with the help of Gus and our coaches , but our home supporters need to get off his back as obviously any abuse and negativity will affect any players confidence.
