A local MP has made accusation that the overcrowding and awful conditions in migrant detention centres may not be simply due to lack of resources and a system overwhelmed. Prolonging such conditions may be a deliberate policy.

To me, that is a very serious allegation.
If true, it would shame our Nation - and would surely be illegal.

We are not allowed to keep even convicted criminals in overcrowded, squalid conditions. That kind of abuse belongs back in Victorian times, and the centuries prior to that age. Migrants (even economic ones who have no right to be here and should be deported after due process) do not deserve to be mistreated and made to suffer as a 'punishment' or a deterrent to others.
Such treatment is inhumane, cruel and shameful.

12 years of Conservative government, and this is the best the Home Secretary can manage;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63466532

"The asylum system is broken" her own words.
And the migrant crisis described as an invasion.
Pathetic.
Such language belittles the grave seriousness of real invasions (Russia in Ukraine) and incites hatred against everyone in this country who doesn't have white skin. When politicians talk this way, racist abuse and assaults on the streets just get worse.
British people encouraged to view migrants with the same hatred that Ukrainians naturally feel about Russian soldiers.

Were he still alive, that bloke who fire-bombed the detention centre in Dover would be applauding Suella Braverman today.
She's talking his language.

Leaky Sue is just another fraud. Still after the top job I reckon.

Today was a good day for hate-mongers in the UK.
Suella Braverman and Jeremy Clarkson must be feeling pretty pleased with themselves.
I have heard it is literally the dream of our Home Secretary to have people deported to Rwanda.
As for Clarkson - his infantile rantings would embarrass most four year olds.

Could Suella send Clarkson to Rwanda?

His obsession with misogyny, racism and poo throwing is far more offensive and disturbing than the presence of any individual migrant, illegal or otherwise.
I'd chip in personally to pay for a business class seat for him.

PS:

I liked the Judge's ruling that Suella would have to personally and thoroughly consider the circumstances of every single person she wants to send to Rwanda was a legal masterstroke.
That's going to become a bit of a grind for her after about the second or third case.

Never mind the asylum charities - if I was Ms Braverman I'd be lodging an appeal...

Once again the Government talks the nasty talk (threatening to disappear illegal migrants to Rwanda)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64736123

But in reality just throws in the towel;
A ten page form (no interview) to unblock the bunged up Asylum system <doh>
They've only been in power 13 years.
No sign of a functioning asylum policy then.

They know it won't happen, no airline will take them. Just sheer populism.

A ten page form that the illegal immigrants will be tutored in the Calais camps to maximise their chances of approval - we’re such a soft touch! :headbang:

As the Daily Heil goes into screaming meltdown about Gary Lineker calling out the new dog whistle policies of the Tories, here's a quick reminder of how they were reporting news in the 1930's. Leopards and spots ...

The lovely Suella has sent a letter to her MP's attacking civil servants, leftie lawyers and the Labour Party in language which is straight from 1930's Germany. The hysterical reaction to Lineker's tweet is another example of the way the country is creeping imperceptibly to the right. It's surely no coincidence that the most extreme language is used by 2nd generation immigrants. It's also worth remembering that the owner of the Daily Mail is a non-dom, so will have to start paying taxes like the rest of us if Labour gets into power.

Interesting that the reporter wasn't willing to put his name to the 1938 Mail story.
This is the same newspaper of course that supported Oswald Mosley and his Blackshirts. British Fascists.
Seeing Rishi Sunak standing in front of a lectern with STOP THE BOATS printed on it is unedifying to say the least.

The UK's position is now that nobody will be considered for Asylum unless they apply through legal channels.
Anybody entering the country illegally will be barred from ever claiming asylum here, as well as being detained and deported.
Children arriving here illegally will be detained until their 18th birthday, then deported on that date.
If they arrived with either parent then they will be separated from that parent, who (remember) is being deported immediately.
No asylum application, no appeals. Just lock them up and ship them out.

I assume then the Government will soon be announcing the building of hundreds of new detention/deportation centres.
These will have to be walled and securely gated, like prisons.
They'll need thousands of staff. Presumably ex police officers, prison officers and soldiers for the most part.
Will human rights organisations such as Amnesty be allowed to inspect these facilities?

And I imagine forcibly deporting hundreds of people at a time on an aircraft will need a lot of strong arm security.
If a plane full of deportees gets out of control the consequences don't bear thinking about.

If this is the Government's best shot at winning the next General Election then God help us.
Mosley would be proud of them.

The crowning irony is that Rishi Sunak's tough talk about no asylum and flights to Rwanda is in 100% conflict with reality since 2010.
When Cameron's Coalition took over from Labour we used to deport around 10,000 illegal migrants per year. Most of them were coming in lorries I think.
Over the last 13 years that deportation figure has dropped to almost zero.
The system is now totally clogged up and paralysed, probably under funded and under staffed - all under Conservative rule.

It it was a Labour Government responsible for almost no deportations and a paralysed processing system the Tory party would be screaming for blood, claiming Labour are soft on illegal migrants and just letting anybody in (etc.)
But the total breakdown of asylum and immigration policy year after year has been on the Tories' watch. It got progressively worse under Cameron, then May, then Johnson.
And now Rishi thinks that some more tough talk and a few lectern slogans will suddenly win round the Electorate?
He's deluded.

When Pritti was Home Secretary, Suella, in her role as Attorney General, wrote a letter warning her about the use of inflammatory language.

The Irish are not f****** about, things will get serious very soon.
The dingy boat people are fighting among themselves and causing upset for the locals.
