You just aren't getting your head round this at all. It really doesn't matter if the fans turned on him or not.

The man who sacked him told you why he did. The manager himself gave his reasons why he was sacked - and if you read between the lines he felt betrayed by the likes of Shearer. Although these aren't really relevant as he wasn't doing the sacking, he never believed it was because of the fans. He believed it was because Shepherd didn't think he was up to the task and others were working against him from within the dressing room. If you refuse to accept reality given to you by those in the know, you can't be helped

on the contrary I think I got my head around it when it happened !!! you can draw your own conclusion as usual

he never believed is key

I have to say the low point on this thread was when Chaos called Sir Bobby untrustworthy. I think that's out of order.

on the contrary he chose not to believe something because he cared about the fans that didn't call for his head

he was to good a bloke to come walk away saying I blame the fans

Neither did the chairman who did the sacking. Because he knew he sacked him because of performance.

The only people who refuse to accept the facts are you and the mackems.

We can draw our own conclusions from that.

so no manager is sacked for both?? you think Freddie with his experience of slagging of fans in the 90s was daft enough t blame them ???

the fans handed him the knife its sad but true

now the same fans that did it whore out rip bobby threads on facebook for likes as if they didn't **** him in the arse

Rather he accepted why he was sacked (performance was the reason he was given) even if he didn't agree with it. While also suspecting Shearer and co were plotting against him.

Perhaps that fits nicely with Owen's assertion Shearer wanted out when Robson tried to sell him.

Either way the fans weren't the reason.

I think managers are sacked for both. They just were not on this occasion. The man who sacked him told us why, end of story.

btw such terrible results finishing 5th after Chelsea were bought by roman … it was like 4 ganes in the following season btw the same argument you are giving for bruce these days .

If you really think the fans played not part in fattys decision and sacking you are an ostrich

Fans were definitely not wanting Robsons head like they were Souness, Pardew, McClaren, Carver, Roeder, blah blah.

There was some discontent, but it wasn't a Robson out campaign, in the 04/05 dvd, Sheppard said "results left me no choice" plus in Robsons book, he said "results" was the reason Sheppard gave for the axe, no mention of fan unrest which Sheppard specifically mentioned when he axed Souness.

If that was the case though either Robson or Shepherd would have conceded this, given the reasons they gave were long after both left the club.

At the actual time a club statement read: "After a disappointing start to the Barclays Premiership season the directors of Newcastle United have informed Sir Bobby Robson that they have decided he is to be replaced as team manager.

"The directors of Newcastle wish to place on record their thanks for the way in which Sir Bobby has worked tirelessly over the past five years to try to bring success to the club."

It was only later that Shepherd went into detail of why he sacked him. He had no reason to lie or play up the fans, he wasn't even at the club anymore. The fans weren't mentioned as a reason. The actual big thing in Freddies mind appeared to be this photo he was threatened with being published which showed the player sticking his fingers up at him. I think the only reference to the fans came about the Wolves game the season before. He said something like loads of the fans walked out without giving them the traditional lap of honour - it disappointed Robson and he told the fans via the media. I remember it well, there were only 5-10k worth of fans left. Anyone who went at the time will recall the tradition for quite some time had been to see the team off for the summer in style regardless how we went.

Shepherd appeared to take on water from the press, players but more than anything he himself felt Robson was past his sell by date. His comments were:

‘Two players came to see me and they said, “He is losing the team.” It wasn’t a case of control, the words they used were losing the team.

‘I think at the time some of the players there were a bit hard too handle. There wasn’t any shrinking violets.

‘You had the Brambles and the Dyers and they were a handful for anyone to handle. All that got on top of Bobby. He was 71. He was feeling the pressure. He was successful. The crowds loved him and all that, but at the end he got a bit tired of it, as they all do"

I trust the words of Freddie sheppard I the same light as the words of mike Ashley … What I know is what I heard from a vast majority of fans and then low and behold he was sacked … it without a shadow of doubt in my mind handed shepherd his chance

I haven't said anything about Bruce. More lies.

These fairytales are entertaining, maybe write a book?

Call it "Me and NUFC: Fake News"

You obviously didn't go to the games then.

I love it when they try to make out Robson couldn't handle the players.

Those words nicely came back to haunt Sheppard only 6 months into "hard-line disciplinarian" Souness's reign, when the loose cannons who had behaved fine under Robson were fighting on the pitch under Souness! Not to mention Souness's very public spat with Bellamy after only a few months of being here.

lets look at things a slightly different way! a large amount of Newcastle united so called greatest fans in the world turned on one of their own sir bobby robson for finishing 5th and 4 games I the following season, having took the club from the bottom half of the table to the champions league.. sickener ey

Load of rubbish. Robson's single greatest strength was his man management. The bottom line is they were the first wave of millionaire kids and they behaved like a right set of ****s. I saw this first hand in the Quilted Camel on the Quayside with Bellamy. I saw Bramble hit every table on the way out of Scalinis only to rock up and play a shocker the next day. I heard the stuff about Dyer burning £20 notes to belittle someone. There was no managing these guys, but Robson made a bloody good fist of it.
