Mbokani - Another Sicknote

It was a serious question. I'm genuinely curious just how many minutes will Mbokani have played for us since his loan signing if he isnt able to play again until mid-April. "Sicknote" as I understand the expression does not mean malingerer but simply someone who is unable to play due to injury, such as the infamous "Wheelchair" Wilshere. My recollection is that even when he was uninjured he didn't get a lot of playing time????

'Sicknote' is a slang term for someone who is a malingerer, but in a football context, it just means someone who's injured most of the time.

Bullard was a sicknote, Mbokani isn't.

He's played 10 of our 26 Premier League games, most of them starts.

10 yikes..

I think Canada has a point here (for once).

It always seemed like a stupid signing, getting someone who was always likely to go to the AFCON on a season long loan. Him having an injury either side of it really has completely broken up his loan spell with us and it's pretty likely now that he'll go the whole season without a goal.

He retired from International football last season then changed his mind.

The chances are we thought he'd be with us for the full season when we signed him.

MS has had to manage that situation.

Though at the time it was thought he was retired from international football, the club's own website even said that.

Yeah nothing Silva can do about it (although not picking him would be a good start) but Mbokani wasn't a good signing and never seemed like one at the time.

Whilst I'm sure the club are very unhappy with Mbokani (unless the retirement info was a load of bollocks) he's only one of 3 strikers we have.

We couldn't afford to have put him on the naughty step.

If only we hadn't wasted a signing on an unproven, out of his depth looking Man Utd youngster just cos the former manager knew him.

Oh wait...

He retired after a fallout with the Congo team, due to him missing a game immediately after he was caught up in the Brussels bombings, there was always a reasonable likelihood of it being resolved and him returning.

It was £1m punt, in Premier League terms, it was a non-event.

Signing someone with hardly any first team experience of any level to lead the line for a club in a barrel load of ****e was always going to be a bad move. We could've got a lot better for £1m, off the top of my head I'd rather have had Berbatov's wages for a year and I'm sure there are a lot better options around than him.

And before you argue he wasn't signed to lead the line, that's certainly what he was doing.

It's hard to attract any quality players when you're a laughing stock and you've an inexperienced manager - as was the case in July/Aug
